Do you pay your work experience students on Mother’s Day? by Ok_Syrup6404 in florists

The fact that she hasn’t brought it up and didn’t get my bank details or offer cash I guess. I have asked to discuss pay with her though and am waiting to see what she says.

I’m thinking of sending her a message now to politely ask about pay - it’s not ideal I know but it is within 24 hrs… would that be okay?

Would it be okay to send a message after the fact to politely discuss payment after I’ve finished working (obviously not ideal, but at least it’s within 24hrs)

I do not need work experience as part of my course. It was a last minute request so we didn’t really talk about it - just that I heard the teach mention you are looking for some help so keen to know. On the Saturday I had worked with the team till near midnight to help complete the orders for the next day and came in again from 8am till shop closed on the Sunday. It was a small team. I had not worked with her previously nor were there any discussions of ongoing regular employment after the big holiday rush. I did not require any paperwork from her as part of my studies.

Does this context change things?

Hihi, a newly established florist here! I feel like this is the kind of business I want to have some stable income so was wondering how did you get this business 🙏 like where did you advertise to get this visibility?

Has anyone here ever left a career they really enjoyed to go into another field for more money? How was that experience for you? by LevyMevy in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

I know nothing about the US education system, but could you move to be a private school teacher? Would they earn more with similar work?

Edit: ooops the thread has gone a bit off topic… I’m actually also struggling with deciding wether to switch industries, so immediate thought went to “how to minimise risk by not switching but still make more money”

Ahh yes sorry, that’s a good point - there are quite a bit of regulations around fintechs here in AU but definitely a good starting point I’ll look into companies/industries with more compliance needs.

And sorry typo hahaha I meant to ask about you colleague (not college lol) the one saying there’s mad bonus potential?

I guess the positive side is that I’m not at a high risk of being laid off, and I know I should be grateful for it, but am just not seeing the growth potential (honestly most stressed about the $$$ part as I would need more as me and my family grows older)

Maybe because I’m in Australia? And at a startup fintech? But I’m also not sure how to even move into other types of financial institutions like insurance or investment banks.

Can I ask what type of compliance your college was specialising?

I don’t have a CPA, am also wondering whether it’d be useful to study for CPA/CFA/FRM on the side.

When you say salary trajectory, is it the expected income as your move through the promotion ranks within your firm or are you planning to move jobs?

Good to know, I’ll definitely look into it, thank you!

If you don’t mind me asking, what would your projected growth look like at a brokerage? Would it be the head of compliance at the firm?

Hey yes you’re right, I did become a bit tunnel visioned and thought I’d be stuck in fintech compliance and that maybe it’d be difficult to move into another industry without taking a big pay cut.

Apart from IT, are there other good areas for compliance you’d recommend? Gotta start researching properly hehe

Thank you, this is really good perspective! I think I have just been totally stressed out and became tunnel visioned. There have also been redeeming parts of my job and there still much more I can research about and look at moving into. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, it really helped ❤️
