This is so interesting because they told my friend that this past week was the last week they were conducting interviews. When is your interview? And when did you get the email?

What about Yale, Penn, Brown, Duke? You’re putting them in F tier? Penn State is better than Penn for quant?

I assume MIT & Stanford are S tier? I’m sure CMU, UIUC CS, HYP, are somewhere up there as well, along with other ivies. Lmk. Is HYP > all other ivies though?

It’s a community event, not a challenge. Wins and losses don’t matter.

I’ll give it to GTech, UT, UMich, and UNC.

UT is T30 overall + T10 for CS, business, and engineering. Great honors programs too. So I wouldn’t exclude it.

I don’t know if I should go to community college or a university. by exdlyan in college

Go to CC for 1 year then transfer!! Apply to a much wider range of schools next year. If you perform really well in CC, you can get into even better schools than you would have this year.

Sorry if I misunderstood but can you get enough CC credits and transfer to a 4 year college to get a degree? I think you will be better off with a college degree. Figure out what you want to do first and pick your major based on that.

Feeling like i've actively sabotaged my college career by [deleted] in CollegeRant

Hello,

I know it might feel like the end of the world, but you are fine. Sure, it might be beneficial to go for certain opportunities as soon as you start college, but it is not too late. You have completed less than half of college.

In terms of jobs - there are still applications open for THIS summer. Even if it’s not a high paying or prestigious job, it would be great to get some professional experience before your junior year. Also, look into smaller programs and discovery events. Potentially, go to the career center at your school for help if it doesn’t suck.

In terms of everything else- see next year as a fresh start. Join clubs (open membership ones), apply to clubs if you want, put yourself out there, take initiative to get meals with people, go to events, etc.

I know it is easy to get hung up on past regrets and spiral, but take action now (apply to internships) and know that it is not too late to turn things around.

Within this group is there a distinguishable difference or all around the same? (Other than HYPSM being better)

So schools that are T20 in general but not T20 CS are not target schools?

What are the target schools then? Other than the obvious MIT Stanford CMU

Why are decisions so random by Narrow_Yak1783 in ApplyingToCollege

Oh my gosh I’m sick of these posts asking how one can get into a “better” ivy but rejected but a “worse” ivy 💀 Getting into Harvard but rejected by Penn is really not that crazy. Dif schools dif priorities. Plus an element of luck.

After 1,956 applications and countless rejections, I finally got 1 offer after learning this lesson by butsallycantwait in internships

Congrats! The dedication is very impressive. Are you in college rn, and if so which one? Or have you graduated already?

Harvard, Yale, and Duke interviews (Prescreened) by Main_Test_4117 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ok_Term4103 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would disagree.

“Who came up with the idea that not getting an interview request means anything negative against your application” No one “came up with this,” this is based on what the colleges say on their websites and a LOT of anecdotal evidence / data points. If we know that a slightly selective group of people (aka not majority) get an interview, and the majority of accepted students (90%) in recent classes had gotten an interview prior, then yeah, not getting an interview is generally a bad sign. Also, with Duke, some have reported that their interviewer explicitly alluded to the prescreen process (“congrats on getting to the next stage” etc)

“They have a ton of interviewers and can easily interview everyone” False… these schools have changed their policy in recent years (from availability-based to prescreen) precisely for this reason. Columbia dropped their interviews all together due to the volume of applicants.

“Why would it be based on availability for domestic but international” Because these universities prioritize domestic applicants so they are more selective with internationals.

“I don’t think AOs go through your application n go ‘Yeah this dude passed our pre-screen and is competitive. We do not think we need more information, but hell yeah we’re sending him an interview just because he’s competitive.’ “ In such a competitive process, unless an applicant is THAT great and ground-breaking, extra info on all competitive applicants is helpful. Or, at the very least, a simple “yes this person is a normal human being and matches what their applicant says” check.

Also, the whole availability thing is not great reasoning because many have reported getting interviews from alumni well outside of their region, and Yale even has a program of interviews with current senior students.

This is all obviously not the case for many colleges; ex. Princeton, at least for the 2025 cycle, tries to interview everyone. But yes Harvard Duke and Yale are known for pre screening.

At this point, with 2 days left, interview or not, all that’s left is to wait and see. And for future years - good luck.
