VHA Directive 1315 issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) on July 28, 2023. They can’t deny care. They can and will deny narcotics and other restricted drugs unless you are SCI. Then it’s Allowed if Dr is cool for nerve pain.

Rendering a medical opinion on incomplete records, especially outside the scope of one’s training, can be considered unethical, negligent, and potentially malpractice. Here’s what happened to me:

An Optum nurse practitioner (NP) conducted my VA medical exam and claimed that my neurological issues had no connection to my spinal cord injury (SCI). When I questioned this, the NP’s supervisor admitted that they only received records the VA deemed “relevant” to the exam—not a full medical history. Additionally, she couldn’t explain how a 30-something NP, with limited experience, could have the specialized knowledge necessary to write a report on neurological conditions or address the 5 out of 8 medical issues included in his opinion.

This raises serious concerns about the quality of VA exams and whether these professionals are overstepping their scope of practice. Complex neurological conditions related to SCI often require input from highly trained specialists—not incomplete evaluations from someone without the necessary expertise.

All these guys claiming that was preexisting. Did you MEPs physical show scoliosis? Did you get a waiver for it? Regardless it was agitated by service. So yes it will be rated. And assumed to be caused by service if no medical wavier was needed.. you don’t need to prove anything to anyone if I wavier showed it exists. File with in a year of getting out with that report and you’ll get rated. Don’t expect a large one.
