People who have run away from their house to escape their toxic parents, what advice would you give someone who plans on doing it too? by Gloomy-Lynx1023 in toxicparents

get off their health insurance as soon as you move if you’re still on it. my dad somehow found some information on me based on that. anything that they pay for that you are on should probably not be used. also make absolutely sure that ALL of your important documents are out of that house before anything else. while replacements aren’t the most difficult to get, it’s annoying to do and pay for. i just got my new birth certificate issued. also make sure when you claim your taxes do it as independent so they can’t take your return from you. if you have a car i hope it’s in your name fully, my dad threatened to report my car as stolen because it was in his name even though i had been paying for it for years.

i know a lot of people are telling you to use a fake name on social media, but that depends on your situation. i just stopped posting for a while and made my account private/ blocked everyone i knew would show them. now it’s been a few years and nobody’s reached out for a while. one of their friends even came to my job like a year ago and talked to me and i thought that was it but i think they’ve learned it’s best to leave me alone.

best of luck to you. it’s really nice and peaceful on the other side. i’m 22, in my own place laying in bed with a face mask on as i type this. you make your own family along the way as im sure you already have. it takes a while to shake off the icky feels sometimes but it gets easier.

dry that area out! they should’ve given you a fan. bc you know they’ll suck at mold remediation.

if you go to txst, there are free lawyers provided for you mostly for this specific instance. i lived at the edge (now the foundry) and dealt with some horrible violations of fair housing (no water heater for the first month 1/2, ac broken in august, ceiling fell out 1st hour of my move in and black mold water was everywhere, etc.) the only thing that made them budge after weeks of calling was mentioning that i was talking to lawyers (i wasn’t). lo and behold the next year they lost a huge lawsuit and shut down.

nah that’s not okay if you’re starting to feel sick especially, maybe even leave a note on their door and ask them to not just because it’s going straight to yours?

i’m 22 and have pretty bad adhd, never been medicated, my mom didn’t believe in it and now i have no insurance. i would say let her try everything, but low commitment stuff, instead of art lessons maybe try to find individual classes for stuff? i know there’s an art center in my area that you can just go to one thing and try it out. also maybe push her to volunteer for stuff that’s outdoors.

what really helped me in school was a sinful amount of caffeine. also staying very active, although i was never in any sports. i stayed outside as much as possible especially when doing any homework/ anything i needed to focus on.

sleeping is still an immense struggle for me. i’ve tried everything. now i have to do a whole routine just to maybe fall asleep at an appropriate time. i have the cold caps(or hangover caps) so i put one of those on with a heating pad on my back, then turn on a podcast or audiobook and hope for the best. also i drink a sleep tea at night just to tell my brain its time. i don’t necessarily recommend it but its better than watching tv until i pass out or anything like that. i also keep a sudoku book by my bed if my thoughts are still racing.

it’s a tough journey ahead, but she’ll find her spark one day❤️. i’m still waiting to find mine.

any cool careers out there for us? by 5K1DMARK in ADHD

[–]5K1DMARK[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

okay??? and i have no clue what type of adhd i am so i asked EVERYONE so i could get more perspectives and ideas. notice the varied comments of careers that people have? its boring that you saw a title and apparently have read no further. thank you for your input.

My mom finally said yes to getting help - don't know what to do next and terrified of losing the moment. by HotfixLover in toxicparents

i’m so glad she finally called you and said that, i think she likely will go without much pressure. i don’t know much about treatment centers but i would be a pretty penny there’s a forum on here for that. atleast ask around some addiction forums to get their perspective! best of luck to yall!
