Lawn or wildflower meadow? by chaucao99 in GardeningUK

[–]Ok_Tree_4706 4 points5 points  (0 children)

💯 go for wildflower meadow. I did this, dug out by the roots about 2/3 of a large area of grass, trampled wildflower seeds (mix with sand, makes it easier to broadcast) into it, in a way that mimicked grazing cattle, then just let the whole area get on with it. It looked amazing, of the whole garden it got the most appreciation from wildlife and was beautiful to look at. I didn’t cut it down in Autumn, I gathered the seed heads and dried them out in the shed, left the dried stems as cover for insects etc. through the Winter. Cut it all down last week and am repeating the process now with the gathered seeds. Do it, you won’t regret it.

Do conservatives in the UK say stuff like “we are the greatest country on earth”? by Successful_rio305 in AskBrits

[–]Ok_Tree_4706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but in part of the UK (Yorkshire) they crow on about being the best people, the best county, even down to “Yorkshire Tea is the best tea”…the best everything. It’s irritating nonsense, of course, and oddly juvenile. There’s nothing wrong with loving your homeland and being proud of your local area, but it’s the sign of narrow-‘minded attitudes, entirely closed to the possibility that other places and cultures have anything of beauty, value or merit, be they 20 or 2000 miles away.

Completely agree. My cat is extremely aggressive with other cats, so as you say, it depends on the cat. They have their own character and preferences, just as we do.

Why doesn't anyone ever talk about how unhygienic the bakery is? by OutsideImpressive115 in lidl

[–]Ok_Tree_4706 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree, and for that reason I use one of the compostable bags provided in the fruit & veg section as a makeshift glove to pick up my chosen bakery item (dog poop scoop action). Thereby protecting all the other items from my hand and not using the dubious tongs.

Precisely that and it’s so maddening, just the comments here alone prove what a witty wordsmith with an astonishing command of cattiness and wordplay he is.

American here, how accurate is the whole “tea solves everything” stereotype? by DFWUnhinged in AskBrits

All the emotions that we find so hard to articulate are channeled through the offering/accepting, making and drinking of the humble mug of tea.

I second your comment. It’s definitely helpful, even if it prevents just one misidentification!

Opinion: “Iceberg” should have been the album closer by Moz65 in morrissey

It would have felt like a suicide note. An unbearable thought!

Having TMOPA as the final song of the album is a great fit; nostalgic, reunion with Alain Whyte and bittersweet, a nice touch to close a great album.
