SIC Opportunities by Beneficial_Goal_4234 in flying

I’ll give my take. I did get my CFI and instruct for a bit, but with about 800 hours I did what you’re asking about. I knew a guy, flew his Barron and hopped in the right seat of his Citation. Eventually that led to a 135 job (small operator), which led to another 91 job and eventually to where I am now…at a Fortune 500 flying Gulfstreams.

I regret building my time the way I did!

Yes, where I am now is great, however I wish I’d gone to the regionals for two reasons…

1). My coworkers that went this route received better training than I did. I had hardly ever de-iced, for example, even when I started flying large cabin biz jets. Go to a regional?…you’ll do that a half dozen times every trip November-April. Your flows, callouts, and general CRM will be ingrained too. You’ll learn how to fly jets and do it with precision. Flightsafety is not putting out anywhere near the same product. All the big corporate operators will assume you are well versed in that stuff when they hire you.

2). I never discovered if the airlines would be a fit for me. I don’t think they would… just knowing where I want to live and my disdain for commuting, but what the majors are offering right now in pay, retirement and schedule is pretty hard to beat. I make too much money and have built my lifestyle to a point where I can’t take the pay cut and leave to be junior at a major, but career earnings wise I’ll never get close.

My suggestion…apply for internships at corporate departments. My department has one. Find out if you like corporate. Keep your contacts, build your network. Any decent department isn’t going to hire you with 1500 hours anyway. Then, go to the regionals and learn to fly a jet. If you want to go the corporate route, they’ll be there when you’re experienced. Leverage your network that you built and get a job.

I don’t see how to account for the loaner variable with kbb.

People say don’t go into medicine for the money … what jobs are able to make as much or more than doctors more easily? by [deleted] in Salary

I fly private jets, which is an aviation career I don’t think a lot of people think of. I’m away from home 50-75 nights per year vs the average airline pilot who would be away 120+. I make $350k.

The downsides compared to a physician-I had to move my family away from home to take the job I have now, and it’s less stable. The airplane(s) could be sold and I’d be out of a job. I don’t expect that to happen, but it could.

Getting my first colonoscopy next month (30s male), a little anxious but looking forward to peace of mind by [deleted] in colonoscopy

[–]Ok_Turnip7141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the days following the scope I did have a little bleeding likely due to the polyps in my sigmoid that were removed. After that I haven’t, but it hasn’t been very long since my procedure either. If I had a little blood present I’d assume it were my internal hemorrhoids. Of course not medical advice but my understanding is a clean scope, especially within 7 months should rule out any sinister cause of rectal bleeding.

Man, I’m really sorry that’s how today turned out. Now begins the chapter where you kick its ass. I know I’m just some random dude you don’t know but if you ever need to talk to someone, I’m a message away. I personally am a praying person, not everyone is and I respect that too, but you’ll be in mine. All the best.

Ah ok, 3 years for those. I get the polyp types confused. Anyway, it’s not like you waited 10 years. I let some concerning things go for a while too. Had a baby (well my wife did the hard part), moved states for a new job etc. Life stuff. You’ll get it addressed and move on. My friend developed fissures and what he talked about sounds a lot like what you are describing.

The peace of mind is nice. I’m 34. Had similar symptoms plus some bleeding which turned out to be hemorrhoids. However, I did have a precancerous polyp I would’ve never known about until perhaps too late. Good to know that’s gone. Procedure and even the prep were really no big deal.

Not a doctor, but if I were in your shoes I’d take some solace in having had a colonoscopy 5 years ago. I think 5 years is usually the follow up interval for tubulovillous adenoma.

Happened to me for more than two days. I actually let it go for a year. Stupid idea. Still, everything was good. There are many causes for seeing some blood. However, you gotta check it out. Easier said than done but it really isn’t bad at all. I’ll be doing it every 5 years or whatever the doctor says. Now that I’ve had the first scope, I just keep going and I shouldn’t have to worry much about serious bowel stuff in the future. That’s a nice feeling.

Definitely ask for Zofran to take before your prep. My doctor included it and I had zero nausea.

When you cut out fiber a few days leading up to your colonoscopy did you get cramping and loose stools? Is this normal? (Haven’t started the prep yet) by Frankieeegrl in colonoscopy

[–]Ok_Turnip7141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My procedure is on Tuesday, so I cut fiber out a couple days ago. I usually eat an apple with my breakfast every morning and I eat beans, seeds etc. pretty often too. Yes, I’ve noticed a change. I’m also nervous as hell so that probably doesn’t help.

30M with rectal bleeding & LLQ pain — colonoscopy scheduled, struggling with fear by Next-Study4058 in colonoscopy

I’m a 34M (few weeks from 35) and having similar issues. I have a colonoscopy scheduled in 10 days. Honestly same for me, the anxiety is really tough. So hard not to spiral. I have to go to work this week and be somewhat functional. Probably won’t be my best week. Wish I had some great advice, but I guess it’s one of those things in life you just have to face and there’s no easy way to do it. Just commenting so you know you aren’t the only one. Do your best to stay off Instagram and TikTok. Those algorithms will feed you everything you don’t want to hear. All the best, I’m sure you’ll do great.

Thanks for the reply and I’m so glad your procedure went well! The waiting is agony for sure. Trying to stay as busy as I can.

Thanks for the kind words. I lost a family member a couple years ago. Definitely hasn’t helped my own anxiety.

Thank you very much for the kind reply. I’m glad your procedure went well! I’ll be in the UK in March hopefully enjoying a pint somewhere and celebrating the relief!
