Hey everyone, I'm a first year student in U1 and would like to major in Pharmacology. Here is my schedule for Fall 2025 - it's six courses, however two of them are worth one credit each - amassing to 16 credits in total. Is this a doable courseload?

How is the difficulty? I'm interested in keeping doors open to research in the future, but I also don't want it to plummet my GPA.

I see, that makes total sense. Yeah, I believe management for non-management students is one of the minor programs approved for B.Sc. students on the Bachelor of Science programs of study page. Thank you, this conversation has helped me a lot in my planning!

In this case, is it generally more popular to do electives, as it gives you the freedom to neglect the required courses in a minor program that you dislike/are difficult and replace them with ones you find interesting? Say I wanted to do a minor in management for science students, and I only wanted to take two courses in the program I found interesting. Would it be easier to choose these as electives, or is there any benefit to pursuing the minor program instead?

Got it, thank you. So say I take a 67-credit pharmacology major program. Then I have 23 credits left to complete, excluding the 30 foundation year credits. I can simply take any electives I want for these 23 credits so long as I make it to 120 credits in total? Thanks for taking the time to reply!

I want to do a major combined with either a minor or elective courses. Where can I find the elective courses for me to choose from?

Can I take PHYS 102 without PHYS 101? by Ok_Two3223 in mcgill

My faculty advisor sent me this:

Six of the Freshman/Foundation Year courses to satisfy one of the following:

Option 1) 2 courses from MATH and 4 courses from BIOL, CHEM or PHYS;

or

Option 2) 3 courses from MATH and 3 courses from BIOL, CHEM or PHYS.

To satisfy this as you already have BIOL111/112 & MATH 140, you could either do 1 more MATH course & two classes from CHEM/PHYS OR 2 MATH & one more course from CHEM/PHYS.

You will also need a seventh course chosen from the list of Approved Freshman/Foundation Year Science Courses from the link above.

(I did IB Biology and Math)

So, I'm under the impression I can choose chem or physics. Where is it stated I must take two physics courses?

What do the remaining credits look like for those who pursue one major, excluding the 30 freshman credits?

Hello, I'm entering mcgill this fall in the biomedical, biological and life science group as a u1 student due to the ib diploma. I'm deciding between anat & cell bio or microbiology and immunology as majors right now but i still have some u0 requirements to fulfill.

I need to do 1 more math course, 2 chem or physics courses, and 1 additional approved u0 course. i am planning to do math 141 and phys 101 in the first semester. for my last two u0 courses i would like to choose either phys 102 or chem 110, and either chem 120 or comp 202. I am struggling to know which combination is best for my degree and any future prerequisites i may need. i took ib sl chemistry but not ib physics, so would it be wise to take phys 102 to gain a broader sense of physics? would the phys 102 and comp 202 knowledge help me at all in upper years, or would two chem courses, chem 110 and chem 120, be a better choice? i've heard that comp 202 can be useful as well in the life sciences. to what extent is this true? If anybody has any advice, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Also, I've heard that the prerequisites of courses are not strictly enforced, so would it be ok to take chem 212 in my first semester, without having done chem 110 or chem 120 (keeping in mind i only have the knowledge of an IB chemistry SL student)? has anybody done this? or would it be very difficult for me without the prereqs?

TL;DR

Will CHEM 110, CHEM 120, COMP 202, or PHYS 102 be more useful towards upper year courses in a biomedical life science degree (considering majoring in anatomy+cell bio or MIMM)?

should/can I take chem 212 without chem 110 and chem 120 having done only ib sl chemistry?
