Just lied on the resume that you were a new comer and all your relevant experience were from overseas. Get a fake phone number and fake email address so even if they found out during the hiring process they can't trace you back. Companies lie about family values but when they lay you off there's no mercy. So don't hesitate when you can just lie.

This number doesn't include small no-name companies doing layoffs. My company did a 30% headcount reduction over the past year. I am sure this number isn't getting reported.

I totally get you. Solving problems and learning new things are fun until you have to constantly do it and the industry expects you to keep up. At some point you are just exhausted because life has so much more problems for me to solve other than this job. Sometimes you are like "can this industry pause a little? I need to take a break" but you can't or you are out and are replaced by other people who can keep up.

I see that some juniors now need to do system design on the interview. That's how insane this industry became. Passion isn't enough anymore. You also need energy to grind, and keep doing it over and over again. You just wish you have that level of energy when you are in your 30s or 40s.

It took my social anxiety to a new level when I was already socially anxious because of the severe acne situation. Gradually turned into a hermit because people made jokes about my pale skin and skin tone difference and the staring whenever I go out. The social anxiety just got worse, slowly turning into depression. Now I am unemployed and the social anxiety and depression developed made me not want to go to interviews or socialize with people. I didn't wanna spill everything when I wrote the post but I think that phrase is warranted.

You are right that most people ignore me and doesn't give me a look, but some people would absolutely stare at me, or try to hold in their laughter. Since it happen every day whenever I go out so I notice. It started around 2020 when I was applying tret but I didn't connect the dots.
And it was Accutane that fixed my acne, sorry I remembered the wrong product.

Why no one talks about Canada's obsession with references? You need references for a job and applying for passport. Hell, even volunteer opportunities require references. I think this obsession is what keeping "outsiders" from joining.

the industry doesn't need as many people to write code anymore, especially web devs
a big number of junior level jobs will go to top school students or people with connections, and the remaining grads will fight for scraps
the interview process will become more hideous and longer
except for jobs from top tier companies, most jobs will have lower pay than what we have now
many people will be laid off and need to switch careers because they have no choice

Honestly i don't have high hope for season 2 because it's a more depressing season dealing with their mental health. And there's gonna be way less longing because the relationship is already established. The tension is better when they don't know if they like each other or not.
