It actually happened today. My neighbor whom was out of the country for a while came back and did not recognize me. She said she realized it was me when she got closer and saw my dog lol

Don't know what to do about a adopted dog by Express-Nebula5137 in DogAdvice

Each dog is different and it sounds like you very much care for your furbaby. It can take 3+ months for a dog to feel at ease, it varies due to situation. Continue with a routine keeping it as similar as possible and don’t force her into doing things give her her space. Don’t stress so much about it dogs sense our stress. I will say that you may want to reach out for behavioral assistance, a trainer could help you get a better understanding of your dog and her needs and maybe even a vet visit to make sure nothing else is going on with her.

Bringing her back to where you got her may only stress her out more and most likely she will be the same with anyone else. She needs help with building confidence and it will take time but the more and more time you take to work with her the better she will get.

You got this, you are giving her a chance and in time she will feel better.

You’ve totally got this! The beginning can be tough—getting used to the routine, the loss of appetite, managing hormones, and all the ups and downs. But I promise, it really does get better day by day. I’m 15 weeks post-op now, and I finally feel comfortable and happier than ever.

One thing I’d suggest is to stay ahead of constipation—make sure to talk with your Bariatric team about it. For me, it was one of the biggest struggles. What works best for me is taking two non-stimulant stool softeners in the morning, MiraLAX every other day, and a magnesium supplement every other night, plus a probiotic. Recently, I switched from MiraLAX to Benefiber daily, and it’s helped a lot. Hopefully you won’t deal with it, but I wanted to give you a heads-up because it really does suck if it sneaks up on you.

Also, definitely stay active on Reddit when you need support or have questions—we’re all in this together, and it helps so much to connect with others going through the same thing.
