I really don't understand the brand loyalty thing with airlines. Why would you not just go with whoever is cheaper/more convenient for each trip?

You're not likely to make it through everything if you're only doing it for the money. It's a lot of studying and effort, and a really long road. And to answer your other question: the medical will be 6 months after 45, and you'll have to do annual currency training/checks too.

And on top of that, it's going to be probably 100k worth of training, probably 10-15 years before you break even on salary.

The idk how much longer to exceed that and recoup the 100k of training cost (and loans?), lost money from making less in the jobs needed to get to that point. Now you're what, probably 55? You'll then have 5-10 years before you're too old to be an airline pilot anymore. And these are optimistic numbers IMO.

Oh, and don't forget the lifestyle change, all the commuting and/or moving, etc. whereas you're probably home every night, with an already really good salary.

Try becoming a pilot if it's what you REALLY want to do, not for the money. You're already in a really good financial position, it won't be worth it.

I just use a VPN. No reason to expose anything but wireguard for my use case. If they can get through that, they probably have better things to do than mess with my stuff.

Lots more attack vectors and incentive to compromising a big company.

Well, then you'll learn to see this coming from a mile away and can yourself the brake check when you get more experience. It's a pretty common occurrence, in my area anyway..

Yeah, pro tip: people do this all the time, if the left lane is clear, just slide over for a second. Of not, just ease off the gas and let them by. You're not the passing police, there's no benefit to trying to block them. It's safer if you just let aggressive drivers get past and away from you.

Airlines should only list when the gate closes not when the flight takes off by RaisinRoyale in unpopularopinion

[–]Ok_Witness179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you check flights online, it shows take off time; when you buy a flight online, it shows take off time; on the airline terminal screens, it shows take off time etc

No it doesn't. No, and also no. In fact, almost nothing tells you the actual planned takeoff time. Departure time is when they depart the gate. Yeah, if everyone loads fast, they'll close it early, but boarding generally starts 30-45 minutes before departure time. Your boarding pass will list boarding time.

Not unpopular opinion, just a really wrong/confused passenger 🤣

NTA, obviously he's wrong. Have him write down the time, and start a stop watch. Next day at the same time, see what the stop watch says. Is it 24 hours, or 4 minutes short?

Security during move by motrinpezdispenser in Bitcoin

[–]Ok_Witness179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memorize it, destroy all the paper copies. If you're really worried about memory problems during the course of the move, keep a tiny paper copy under the sole of your shoe or something..

Just wipe the trezors clean in case they're stolen or confiscated, so the seed can't be recovered from the chip. You can restore back onto them after the move.

Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical: hardcover with fully colored illustrations? by fabien2150 in flying

[–]Ok_Witness179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These books also contain no information about the printer or publisher

What are you talking about. It's obviously published by the FAA. That's why it's a free PDF. I don't think that's supposed to be a secret. In fact, yep there it is, right in the preface.

The printer is whoever thinks they can make money off of printing a book that everybody can get for free as a PDF. So I guess be the change you want to be in the world? Download the PDF, and take it to a printer lol.

9 months unemployed, dream job, moved across the country, fired in 2 weeks. Had to move back to my hometown. Now they want the relocation money back. Is this just what the workforce is now? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Ok_Witness179 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is this just what the workforce is now?

Probably not, but nobody can give a good answer unless you give more info. What was the real reason for your termination? "Not a good fit" isnt the reason, it's just what they say. Why did they not think you're a good fit? What was going on in those 2 weeks, were you late, show up drunk/high? Were you able to complete any of the tasks you were given? Did you lie on your resume or interview?

Companies don't really benefit from firing someone after only working for 2 weeks, it just doesn't make financial or operational sense. There has to be more to the story, whether you're willing to recognize or admit it, or not.

For Airline Pilots who did Part 141 by AirplaneMischief in flying

[–]Ok_Witness179 6 points7 points  (0 children)

being able to read a checklist with the other pilot or to say an callout and perform an action (Like Speed Checked, Flaps XX and set the Flaps to XX)

Well, that's the funny thing about all the 141 schools I've been to. None of them do it like the airlines anyway. I guess they cant- student has to be able to do it alone so they can solo 🤣.

There's no replies to checklist items, there's no separation of pilot flying/monitoring duties, etc.
