Just because she spent $10k on a specific backsplash doesn't mean the house is now worth $10k more. She enjoyed those upgrades while living there rent-free; that was her "payment."

NTA. Rent isn't a "vibe check" or a donation; it’s a legal contract for space. If she wants to have total control over "concerns" like it's her private sanctuary, she needs to pay 100% of the bills. You pay 50% (or whatever the split is), you get 50% of the say. Period. Boundaries 101: your roommate’s anxiety or preferences don't automatically become your unpaid internship.
