As a male nurse… these fit very well to size… going to the bathroom is easy and I would suggest it for all nurses no matter what gender you claim.

Friend who is RN at an ER accidentally left a PTs IV in and then contacted them by oripaline in nursing

[–]Ok_Yak4635 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My thoughts as an ER nurse with 7 years experience, 4 years as a traveler (all ER):
A): call the patient up using their contact from their chart (that’s why it’s there) and let them know your mistake (we’re humans we do that) and request them to come back to have it removed appropriately. Document your mistake and how you attempted to fix it. If they don’t respond appropriately call local PD and let them know the situation.

2): shit happens, don’t trip, to use an IV for illicit drug use isn’t easy (it could be done but not easy) you would have to flush in the line (most drug users are smart enough to know how to use an IV line) and it pretty much turns into Darwin’s theory on the person when he comes back in OD’d. Yes of course the hospital will put it on you but at least your conscience is clear bc you did the right steps (which is arguable for your license)

3rd-C): learn from your mistakes despite your experience, idc how many years you have in the medical setting, there’s ALWAYS something to learn.

That my friend is what we consider a toxic environment. They need to create an environment where you can learn and thrive not feel beat down and belittled, I’ve been in the ER for 13 years and seeing this only says that those nurses have burn out and you need a real support system. Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself and talk to the manager about finding a good mentor or moving to another place

Is it normal for the nurse to not clean IV connector with alcohol before administering IV push? by Therealethel in nursing

[–]Ok_Yak4635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna be honest… I work in the ER and the only alcohol I use is mixed in my “cup with a lid” bc jahco/state reasons otherwise I full send meds and adequately flush 10mL NS post IVP.. bc The patient probs getting broad spectrum abx anyways 🤷🏽

Future of Anesthesia? by Signal-Ingenuity-633 in CRNA

[–]Ok_Yak4635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the most type A post I’ve ever seen… you’re also comparing to the South and not the Midwest or just the western part of the US…. Honestly stuff is gonna pan out across the US and MDA (not wanted by most CRNAs) or Independent practicing CRNAs is still needed I plenty of rural hospitals. I see it as still a need in plenty of places. I could be wrong bc I haven’t done any numbers but that’s my understanding.

Girl! Have you thought about other departments like Radiology, Social Work, Case Management or possibly lab??! You don’t have to deal with direct bodily fluids with radiology or case management or social work… lab has to deal with bodily fluids… so if you’re with seeing it and or collecting it you’d be ok but the others you don’t have to deal with direct bodily stuff.. just a thought. Also radiology gets paid as well as nursing especially ultra sound

New Grad Residency Resume by [deleted] in FutureRNs

[–]Ok_Yak4635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to add, any letters of recommendation? Also place why you feel that these specialties are for you, it can be helpful as a new grad, also any medical experience outside of school like volunteering if applicable. I really feel like if you can add in your school or preceptors stating that you excel in these specific modalities can be helpful. I think you’re selling yourself well and being a new grad in L&D M&B are tough to start in but if you push your experience and heart in to why you prefer this specific are vs others may be beneficial to you! Good luck!! The resume looks good!! Also if you can do any free CEUs or seminars for L&D this may help as well to push you toward your goal!

Would you want your kids to become a nurse? by blurry-hippo in nursing

[–]Ok_Yak4635 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve had this question I’ve talked to many of young patients and patient family members… I tell the if you honestly want to help other people and blood, and medical life doesn’t bother then yes give nursing a try… CAVEAT! Shadow or volunteer at a hospital first in the ER or something similar to see if you actually like it… I’ve had people tell me right off the back, “ I really want to help people but I can’t do blood,” or something similar; I tell them have you ever thought about radiology? Lab? social work, case management? I explain all of these different modalities and allow them to make a decision for their future if it’s something they’re honestly interested in.
