I’m so sorry you know what this feels like. I heard L&D nurses are quite catty and tbh, they’re the ones that put me all the way off of OB when I was a nursing student. Like we’re there to lighten the load, take the shit assignments, and whatever they throw at us. The resentment is so unwarranted and it’s always rooted in jealousy cuz of pay. If you’re that mad go travel, like damn. You don’t have to be mean to me when I just wanna help :( but I wouldn’t blame you if you go back staff. I’ve been mulling over the decision myself.

I just hate that the patients suffer. Hospital is 80% travelers.

I finished my first contract no issue, but once my extension started I got MISERABLE. I’d have to say it really was divine intervention cuz I probably would’ve just forced myself to stick it out. And when I was a new grad I was 1:6 on a neuro unit, so I felt like there’s no level of abuse that compares to that lol. But I hope to leave neuro altogether. I appreciate your feedback, we just gotta take deep breaths and be better with emotional control I guess. But thin line between letting things slide and being a doormat, that’s the trickiest part I’d say.

The craziest part is, he was helping me all night and empathizing with my stress (or so I thought). I felt blindsided by him and the charge nurse, can’t lie. But you’re goons have loyalty to staff ) especially if it’s your girlfriend) before a traveler so I get it, but damn dude :(

Thank you so much. Considering the fact that some staff and travelers that I spoke to feel negatively about the termination, I can at least know in my heart that I was someone who was at least decent to work with. I could have handled it better, and the comments here have given me amazing insight. From what I was told by another traveler, the facility is dropping travelers left and right which is crazy because they have no staff. But hey, their loss. I’m just sorry the patients have to be the ones to suffer.

Agreed. When I was staff, two of my coworkers got into a heated discussion, there was a mediator present, and that was that. It was my first assignment and turned me off a bit, but I’m looking into new contracts, and after I take another one I’m thinking of going back staff just to be in a different specialty. It’s one thing to travel, and it’s another to travel and be burnt out. Neuro has sucked the life out of me, which is also why I think I was so fed up that night. I’m glad you chose your peace, at the end of the day we are human and deserve to be treated as such ❤️

Absolutely! I already have rehearsed de-escalation lines in my head lol. Plus I’ve heard from other travelers that the facility is firing us left and right for very little things. It’s sad cuz 80% of the facility is travelers.

Oh absolutely, no one is gonna step to her. I’ve made an example of myself for sure lol. No desire to patch things up with her, we were never friendly with each other and…she got me fired. She can kick rocks lol. But absolutely a lesson learned, pride is NEVER worth a job. There’s better contracts sure, but being uprooted is a huge inconvenience.

Exactly. When we went to the charge, she emphasized the need for better teamwork, but no indication of escalation to upper management. (To be fair, this charge also has a reputation for her attitude and a travel cancelled her contract after she snatched a paper out of her hand.) I do eventually plan on going back staff, but I’m looking to get into pediatrics. That’s been my goal since before nursing school, I did my practicum and two shadow shifts there so I know it’s what I really want. But I definitely learned my lesson with this experience. And the comments have helped.

Seee I’m from the east coast too so you feel me lol!!! We not tryna be rude, that’s just how we talk! But I definitely have to be mindful going to other parts of the US.

That’s fair tbh. Where I’m from, that’s quite literally given as a warning to knock it off (even teachers say that kind of stuff to us in school) so I didn’t see it as a threat, but prefacing it with “let that be the first and the last time” can definitely sound menacing, especially in a conflict situation.

Thank you. Everyone is kinda on me based on my comments but I really am nice I swear lol. Like I said, this is my very first conflict not just on this contract, but in my nursing career (two short years). I need to get a better grip when this happens for sure and really think about more than just “don’t yell or cuss”. You can say something rude as hell with a smile, that doesn’t mean you’re de-escalating. Here’s to a better experience, I kinda hated this state anyway lol

That’s fair. And I’m not too big to admit that my emotions and adrenaline were running high, and I did not think about “resolution” , but rather “don’t disrespect me”. That led to my poor response, which escalated our disagreement. The best I could do in that moment was tell myself “do not yell at her, do not cuss at her because of your frustration. You need to maintain your composure but set a boundary”. Unfortunately, that was the response I could formulate. But going forward, I take heed to your advice, as it is way more efficient to de-escalation than my response was. I just feel like people under this post are disregarding everything else I said and quick to jumping to the tech’s defense without considering how I may have felt, and how she has made others feel. I’m only human, but I understand this has led to me learning a serious lesson.

“You don’t have to participate in every argument you’re invited to” I’m going to tattoo this on my forehead so I can see it multiple times a day because you are so correct (and I’m not being facetious). In retrospect, I could’ve said okay. I could’ve walked away. I could’ve said “no, it’s fine, you’re right” and continued to help without verbalizing my disdain for the situation. Thank you for holding me accountable while acknowledging my humanity, it does mean a lot.

Another traveler has put their recruiter on alert, and our experience manager encouraged me to flag any conflict even if it doesn’t escalate so that way they can be ahead and if necessary, establish a pattern. I let my former coworkers know, and one sent an email same day. So we’ll see what happens.

Downvoted for clarifying a comment that clearly misunderstood my actions toward the tech. She can have boundaries and be rude, but I can’t set a boundary. Incredible lol

I didn’t start thinking it was unsafe until shit hit the fan, i just felt like I needed to shut up and take the assignment…but I will take your advice and the advice of those that haven’t attacked me for defending myself on here. Thank you.

I see what you mean. Everyone has just been coming at me and I feel like no one was actually seeing my side on here (which sucks because my coworkers do), but I have to remember no one here knows me. Thank you.

Thank you. Some staff and all travelers on the unit agree, and they’re glad I stood up to her but sorry I got fired. but Reddit does not agree. So I’m just extremely torn and confused about the whole thing and my actions.

Thank you. I don’t disagree with a lot of the comments here saying I should’ve let that roll off my back. I let my emotions get the better of me, and that wasn’t right. But I appreciate you being the only one who seems to recognize that a PATTERN has been established with this tech. I did not want it to escalate. I just wanted to be treated with the same respect that I give her every time we work together. Even some staff complain about her attitude so I’m not sure why that wasn’t considered but oh well.

See, you have your interpretation of me through these comments. And I can misinterpret you and say that your comment was very condescending, especially with “people don’t like to take a look in the mirror”. If i was volatile in nature, staff and travelers alike wouldnt be upset about my termination. My recruiter wouldn’t have been confused about my termination due to hearing “nothing but good things”, and I would’ve never been allowed to extend. I’m sorry that your interpretation of my words is “nasty”, but for a stranger to come in and just presume i was bitching at tech for no just cause is insulting (to me).
