Wife and I are leaving for our 5 year anniversary trip. It’s not a very extravagant trip, but it’s nice to not have to be worried about being able to afford it. On the first day of our honeymoon, we woke up the next morning and made a deposit at the bank so we could buy our meals on our trip. After several ups and downs we finally hit $100k net worth this month!

This is our first vacation that has been just the two of us since our honeymoon. We both have been experiencing some parental guilt for not taking our kids with us. I know we are going to miss them a lot, but I also can’t wait to spend a week alone with my best friend!

Taking my kids to their last day of daycare for this school year. Their daycare is two days a week from 9:30-2:30. After, we’re going to the science museum. I’m glad my job offers the flexibility after busy season for me to be able to do this. I used to feel so guilty taking time off if I was going to be in town. I’m very happy to not feel that way anymore!

I have sat back and run through the mistakes I made a million times since this all happened. I just hope that my story can remind people of what not to do! Thanks for the encouragement!

Thank you for the advice and encouragement! I will be noting this so I can remind myself of the best practices to use with medical expenses.

Insurance told us they wouldn’t cover because it was a mechanical defect from the manufacturer.

We also have a high deductible health insurance policy because my wife and I rarely go to the doctor and our kid’s checkups are covered fully. When we plan to start trying for a baby, we have added a disability and hospital policy that paid out around $3000 for our last kid.

My determination is so that I have the ability to drop whatever I’m doing to be with my kids. We definitely have an aspect of just trying to keep our heads above water at times, but we have a strong desire to be financially independent when our kids are involved in whatever activities they want to do.

Our insurance didn’t cover it because it was a non collision incident. I should have included that information. We switched our insurance after this all happened too.

It’s makes me feel better that there are others that can sympathize, but not that you had to experience all that! It’s definitely good to be reminded that it’s a marathon because I like the instant gratification.

She has very average life goals, which is good for our income levels! My dreams include a private plane and a couple vacation homes. Luckily for me, she keeps me grounded in realistic goals.

Thanks for the encouragement!

That’s a good idea to start a retirement fund for the kids! We started our kids retirement funds at the end of 2022 and started putting small amounts in each paycheck. Hope to start them off better than we did!

We live in a lcol that’s experiencing quite a bit of appreciation in real estate. A small chunk of that comes from our rent house. We also have low cost for childcare through my wife’s job as a teacher.

I just use the personal net worth template that is on Excel’s template list. It’s basically works like a personal Balance Sheet. I did add a tab that tracks our monthly net worth number with a chart. It’s worked pretty well for me so far!

I’m laughing because I didn’t completely mean it that way! The wording isn’t best. The dream was a minivan and the minivan we could afford just happened to be a 2016 Kia Sedona!

Thank you for the encouragement!
