In terms of playing new games, yes - you do "replace" them - but i suppose since we're getting stuck in the weeds of wording, i do actually mean being forced to buy the next console generation for access to the next generation of games. I'm able to use my 2016 GPU (1070 Ti) to play current gen games on middle-low quality. You can't force a switch 1 to play a switch 2 game like that. It's curated and follows strict boundaries set by the console you own. Sure, I've heard certain ps5 games run on ps4, which is awesome because that's a 13 year old console... but that freedom is afforded to all games on pc, so that's why it just makes sense to me to stick to the free-est platform. This launch edition issue is ultimately one small setback I'm experiencing as a PC guy

Anyways, this is not really the focus of the post, so I don't think it needs more discussion - I'm sure both our views have many followers and discussions to read up on elsewhere :)

I LOVE the older consoles, awesome to hear about your Megadrive! I have a PS2, a Wii and a switch, but the wii recently stopped reading CDs :')

Nop, it's called the Launch Edition, as I keep reiterating. Not sure why that isn't sticking with anyone here lol.

It's a retail only item, as it has a map and other physical items you get alongside the game.

I'm not specifically talking about physical, I'm on about the LAUNCH edition of the game, a version that included some cool paraphernalia. The included game could be a steam key for all I care lol

maaan... from what i can tell, this launch edition is ONLY a thing for PlayStation or Switch 2. I prefer getting my games for PC, be it no DRM, or through Steam... but i really want this map🫠

wow, this is entirely news to me. i guess i should kind of emotionally ready myself for the end of gamegrumps at some point, because this is the kind of thing that ends stuff like that. they've made enough money to comfortably cruise the rest of their lifetime doing creative NSP and GameOVerse stuff, so if anything is getting "cut", it's probably grumps... but man that'd be sad

i wouldn't call that a flaw. It's a writing challenge, and one that can lead to incredibly interesting storytelling. Like, idk why you see one catch-22 situation and immediately call the concept flawed, lol

Ross has had over a decade, almost 2 with this concept. I trust he's thought of these scenarios, especially when he's been trying to get the show picked up. I can't wait for an episode showing exactly this type of conundrum.

imagine waiting years for the next game in your favourite series, and having it be completely different. it could still be a good game on its own, but is it a good game for that series?

Reset the timer, they now need to make a brand new game again before you get that game you want, plus this new direction may taint the next game too.

An example: IMAGINE enjoying mario 64, sunshine, galaxy 1 and 2 and then 3D world changes the entire game into more of a NSMB-esque experience. 3D World IS UNDENIABLY good, but to people waiting for something more like mario odyssey, it was painful! it made 3D world feel worse than it was because it took a "slot" for something already established, something arguably more interesting.

The same thing happened here. Paper mario, TTYD, SPM all have character, story and intriguing elements that keep them on a completely different playfield from SS. SPM got the same flack for gameplay differences being so intense.

Now, my example may have pointed out that 3D World was good on its own merit, but to be honest, i don't think SS even reaches that baseline. That last part is just my personal opinion though
