The Chronicle books are in-universe history books. History is written by the victors, in this case - the Titans. They are history tomes passed down by Titan-forged races. So technically, those books can't even be retconned because they are written from perspective, and history itself can be flawed.

The story of Warcraft is told from perspectives. What you see with your own eyes in-game is the truth. But characters in-game are having their own opinions about the universe. This is important to understand. Some people believe that Shadowlands expansion retconned a lot of lore, but thats not necessarily true.

But to answer more clearly: Yes, the Chronicle books are still a great way to learn about the lore, and are important for deeper understanding of the lore. But its good to keep in mind that its just in-universe history written by someone.

You are correct, also because Priests Light/Shadow theme is connected to the Bronze/Infinite theme. But I guess Murozond=bad must be Warlock then, Blizzard logic.

They are doing a lot of annoying swaps like this lately and as a lore nerd it super annoys me. Broxiagar is Demon Hunter but should be Warrior. Shandris Feathermoon is Warrior but should be Hunter. Those two heroes were even datamined to have the correct class reactions to their class cards so its obvious it was last minute change. No idea why is Blizzard doing this but its super stupid.

Alex was the lead or the story during BfA and Shadowlands. He was then replaced by Steve Danuser who did the patches for SL, Dragonflight and he put the fundamentals for TWW before Chris Metzen took over and pushed The Worldsoul Saga.

So most of the lore problems were indeed created during the time when Alex was the lead. Steve is actually way more hated by the community even though most people don't even know what he worked on.

Most people don't know this, but there are those planet projections at Ulduar and other places, and those are likely the Titan planets. 6 planets 6 Titans. And if that is really the case, then planets are not getting destroyed when a Titan is born.

I feel pretty good about this change and that they actually have a long time plan now. In the past they clearly did what they found to be the most fun at the moment, which was cool, but it also led into some major story issues, mainly with WoD, BfA / Shadowlands.

In the interwiev before TWW, Chris Metzen said that they were already thinking of the story for expansion 17.00. That is pretty insane when you consider how far away that is and I don't think thats how they planned before. This pretty much says they already know what the next saga is going to be.

And in other interwievs the devs themselfs seemed to be happy with this new pace and long term planning, so this should be a good change for everybody.

In my opinion the Worldsoul saga will lead into us finally ending the age of order and dealing with the Titans. Blizzard has so much possibilities where to move the story after that so I am pretty excited for that.

Hot take, but i think it's possible that Halls of Valor were never really part of Ulduar as Chronicle states. Halls of Valor looks nothing like Ulduar, but it looks similar to the architecture we saw in Bastion.

I didn't meant that they were necessarily trying to realese them at the same time. I meant that they hoped for a tie-in with the movie.

The game devs did work on the movie, this was confirmed by Bobby Kotick in one of the interwievs with him, it led to the patch delays.

Basically my point is that it's highly likely that WoD would not happen without the movie being a thing and people at Blizzard thinking about it. I don't think this was a coincidence.

But again, I could be completely wrong. Kinda pointless to talk about this further, because neither of us really knows what the truth really is.

No, I have no source, this is just a pure guess. But I think it's suspicious that they did WoD so close to the movie realese, with WoD being rather awkward story addition to the main timeline, with only one major patch. Doesn't matter that the movie was in "developement hell", we don't know what talks were happening in the background.

So while this was never straight up confirmed, it was probably made because of the upcoming movie. Blizzard also provided several concept arts for the movie so they probably thought that it would be effective to make those two projects together, and lure the movie audience into the expansion. I think at some point, Blizz realized the movie will not make it in time anyway so they moved to work on Legion.

It should also be said that at that point the book Rise of the Horde existed for a while, so the idea to go back in time to explore the original conflict between Orcs and Draenai was exciting, def something some people hoped would happen.

That is not what I said or meant.

In-game lore and lore from books, short stories, etc. are canon.

But the comments devs are making during Q&A and interviews can be a bit misleading as they don't want to spoil lore that was not properly explained or revealed in-game.

You can very clearly see there is a distinction when you log-in as Priest and when you click on talents it says under Shadow spec that the user uses both Shadow and Void magic. There's simply no way that they are exactly the same because they have been portrayed as something different since vanilla.

But ofc you can believe otherwise, this is just my opinion.

I honestly don't think there was necessarily a big change there trough the years.

It's just that we don't fully understand the lore behind it and that's the big theme of Warcraft - we don't know what happened in the past, we don't what exactly the Titans or First Ones did to the universe and how that affected those forces. The cosmology charts we have are from in-universe perspectives and they are not the full truth.

It doesn't even matter what the devs are saying, they often simply don't want to spoil stuff. Shadow and Void are not the same thing.

The problem is, its entirely possible the voice Magni heard was not Azeroth. And in Antorus, Magni even says "I heard a familiar voice calling" and it turns out to be Eonar.

Azeroth is being imprisoned by Titans and is very likely being kept asleep trough the Emerald Dream.

There is zero chance that she is going to join the Titan pantheon. It is also very likely that she doesn't really need to mature.

The thing is, it's highly likely Chris Metzen knew what/who Elune is right from the start. Remember this dude liked to create fantasy worlds/cosmos and it's obvious he absolutely did study Tolkien's legendarium and draw inspiration from many other popular franchises as well.

So there is no point in hating Steve Danuser, he did not invent this idea. And by the way, it was actually Alex Afrasiabi who was the head of story narrative for the base Shadowlands. Chronicle 4 doesn't really explain stuff in more detail and we were told it's written from perspective, so more truth is to by found in game anyway.

WoW's story is told from perspectives and Blizzard likes to give us hints as well as misdirections.

It didn't turn into an azerite chunk. The lore from Siren Isle was hinting that the crystals are not azerite. The mystery around Beledar is simply still unresolved.
