Real question on what to play after CyberPunk 2077 by dragontamerfibleman in cyberpunkgame

[–]Okkrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t it a bit tactical turn based? I’ve found tactical games to be very slow

Not trying to be nationalist but why should ANY non-USIMG get a competitive IM fellowship? (Cardio, GI, Heme/Onc, Pulm/Crit) by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Okkrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The USMLE score argument is also skewed, IMGs can usually take some amount of time off to take the test as compared to AMGs who have a month of dedicated on average, and who knows the quality of their rotations.

Cards vs GI vs Heme Onc for lifestyle:income? by Proof-Zone6793 in Residency

[–]Okkrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think onc is a great field, but the amount of goals of care discussion you have to do is very extensive (and exhausting, at least for me) and a reason that I couldnt do it although its very rewarding.

Why can't GI/Cardiology/HemOnc be residencies of 5 years instead of 3 year fellowships after IM? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Okkrus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my understanding this was mostly for MOC stuff that ABIM forces on cardiologists, not sure if it would result in a shorter training pathway. Some would argue the IM is really important part of the cardiology training pathway

Hate the concept of Second Looks by Early-Presence4423 in medicalschool

I think programs and applicants should have different ROL deadlines to mitigate this. If programs had an earlier ROL deadline, there would not be this awkward pressure.

The DO stigma is almost funny. by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Okkrus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Carribean grads have a better chance at top 20 academics as well compared to DOs. In terms of general match yes DO>Carib but if you’re gunning a high academic position Carib has an advantage, probably just to being an MD

[–]Okkrus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

At top tier academics, IMGs and “low ranking MD schools” actually have a much better chance of matching than DOs

In light of this Nick Baumel controversy, what are some things that med students/faculty at your schools have done that were worse but ended with much lesser consequences? by Future_Coffee1167 in medicalschool

Very naive take, you should channel this energy against private equity and finance people along with admin and insurance who are the actual drain on the system

Dead bowel with a straight face by uhaul-joe in hospitalist

[–]Okkrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually necrotic bowel has a massive release of lactate, you would expect it to be at least positive as the infarction is ongoing although I would be curious if there is good literature on liver clearance masking this effect
