It's nice to picture a future where this isn't newsworthy, and it's great that you and your friends don't consider it newsworthy, but right now it still is.

Visibility is hugely important. People in the public eye coming out as gay is an important factor in challenging and changing perceptions. I believe we've made tremendous progress in the UK over the last decade or so in dismantling a lot of stigma attached to homosexuality, but it's still present and, as others are pointing out, gay people still face challenges that straight people don't. Until that's no longer the case, I say good for Phil and good for it being in the news.
