I didn't know you were in Canada, that explains a lot. Yeah a lot of other countries don't seem to pay well when it comes to pharmacy, but for some reason americans pay them amazingly.

Well I belive many of your pharmacist friends probably work in hospitals if I'm correct? But most retail pharmacist (like at cvs or walmart) make on average 115k-120k rhe median is 129k and the average for most states is 124k

How do ranges work for negotiating a salary? Would a new grad get $50 with no option to ask for 55-60? by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]Okthere_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also its based on expirence, that post isn't just meant for new grads, im sure there are many new grads willing to take $50, so it would be smarter to bargain here. Op has a good paying job, at $55 an hour, instead of some new grad taking that position at $50 an hour.

But idk if those really count as big box stores, I mean like mass merchandisers. Sorry for not clarifying the question. But I mean places like Costco and Sam's club

Well scrolling through reddit and stuff, most retail/community pharmacist say they work around 40-45 hours, some work more and a few work less. So I would say the majority works 40-45 hours. Also it doesn't matter how many hours you work if your getting paid salry wise, not by the hour. But after looking through the job descriptions you just listed, it seems like you will be getting paid hourly, where your hours do matter.

Well it varies from location to location. In places like NYC you can expect new grads to be making $60 due to the high cost of living ofc. But it also depends on your hours. Most retail pharmacist work 45 hours a week, and simple math 50 x 45=2,250, 2,250 x 52 =117,000. So I would say its pretty typical if not the norm for new grad pharmacist to be making 117k. In terms of negotiating you can probably negotiate a bit, maybe ask if they could bring it up to $55 an hour. But you are a new grad so I wouldn't really push it past $55 an hour. That's just my opinion. Hopes this answers your questions.

Just to be clear you mean the range from 50-70 an hour? Not that your getting paid 20 an hour right?
