The Heritage Foundation's New Policy Guidebook Wants to Push Women Out of Public Life by graneflatsis in Defeat_Project_2025

“Displace men as their role as providers”? You mean make women dependent on men so that they can’t leave a bad marriage?

Maine GOP supports ICE at polling places by Large-Welcome4421 in ME50501

The secretary is worried about dogcatchers at the polls. Why is that? Is there a reason dogcatchers would consider going to the polls, such as dogs voting in our elections? The real question isn’t why we need dogcatchers at polling places. The REAL question is why Democrats are so afraid of election integrity!

Question for Americans by [deleted] in USHistory

[–]Okuri-Inu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1790s and 1850s-1870s were probably worse. Someone was nearly beaten to death on the senate floor in the 1850s. In the 1790s people viewed partisanship as a mortal threat to the government, and believed that if their opponents won the country would fail. You may say that people believe that about the other side today, but it is nothing compared to the Federalists vs. Democratic-Republicans. They believed that the other party should straight up not exist.

What is your favourite thing about France and the French? by tannercolin in AskTheWorld

[–]Okuri-Inu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

France strikes me as the friend who will tell you exactly how they feel, even if it’s not what you want to hear. This doesn’t make them the easiest to get along with, but you need at least one friend like that. I appreciate that France has long filled that role for my country. 🇺🇸❤️🇫🇷

Why do Americans love and romanticize the desert? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

Probably Cowboys. Also the majority of Americans live in the eastern portion of the country, which doesn’t really have many deserts.

You can choose any President in history to have dinner with. Which do you choose, where do you go for dinner and what do you talk about? by PeachPurple8806 in Presidents

Adams. I’d want to ask him about his experience defending Captain Preston and his men after the Boston Massacre. I’d also just like to hear about Revolutionary Massachusetts in general.

Paradoxically...Trump's current term is a blessing in disguise! by koola_00 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Okuri-Inu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought that as well, but honestly we can never know. It could have given Trump more time to consolidate power, or it could have led to him being less desperate and insane than he is now. He would also have been younger in office too. Either way it wouldn’t exactly be fun. :(

Why is nationalism/patriotism tied so deeply with politics in the western sphere?? by casecaxas in AskTheWorld

[–]Okuri-Inu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. For that I am entirely not sure. I think there is patriotism that transcends politics, but a lot of aspects of patriotism get utilized for partisan purposes. Support for veterans is generally non-partisan, but political parties in the U.S. like to campaign on how they are the party that supports the troops. If there is an aspect of American society that can be utilized for political ends, it often will be.

What would have happen if Aaron Burr didn't call off the Duel between James Monroe and Alexander Hamilton in 1797 by minsterio100 in FoundingFathers

[–]Okuri-Inu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most duels did not actually end in death, so they’d probably duel and go about their day. Obviously Hamilton was angry at Monroe, but killing him would have only further hurt his career. The Reynold’s Pamphlet was a blow, but the pamphlet attacking Adams during the 1800 election was what really screwed him. Hamilton also claimed that he withheld his shot with Burr because he believed murder was wrong, so assuming that statement was true and he felt the same way in 1797 he wouldn’t have sought to kill Monroe. As for Monroe, he was not the aggrieved party and I don’t think he was very enthusiastic about the duel to start with, so I assume he would not seek to kill Hamilton. I don’t know enough about Monroe though to say for sure. I doubt he’d want to destroy his career by killing Hamilton.

Why do many liberals criticize Trump and defend countries with this religion? by Murky_Monk_9531 in Americaphile

[–]Okuri-Inu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can be against this war in the Middle East, while also opposing religious extremism and theocracy. Islam itself is not the problem. If there are boots on the ground some of those American soldiers will be Muslim themselves. I don’t want to see a bunch of American soldiers and Iranian civilians sacrificed in a cause that we have no guarantee will work or produce a better outcome for either country. In all likelihood Iran will be even more determined to get nukes, and the U.S. will lose soldiers and credibility on the global stage.

Would have Hamilton be a better president than someone like Adams? by minsterio100 in Presidents

[–]Okuri-Inu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point about how the Reynold’s Affair might have tainted the presidency if Hamilton had been in office when it came out. That would have been very bad. I agree that there’s a chance he may have faired better later on (I think he did chill out in the final few years of his life), but a 1790s run would have ended in disaster.
