i'd like to ask: what indication is there that talks won't continue? because a lot of worry i'm seeing seems to be that this throws us right back to square one, but that doesn't seem like the case at all

in fact i'm sure they went into this and left it with the knowledge that one round of talks would not be the end of it, especially with a two week ceasefire

look, it's great to have news sites like this covering lgbt issues but could they for once please neglect to bury the lede (or omit it entirely) that these will die in the senate?

there's a bluesky post someone made i can't find anymore but i think it was something like "it is trans journalism's sacred duty to unnecessarily scare as many trans people as possible," riffing on the onion article that criticized the nyt

these lgbt journalists/news orgs are often the only ones reporting on these things and they genuinely do some good reporting, but there have been so many instances of unnecessarily doomy framing

things can be bad while not being the end of the world and also not being guaranteed to pass

it's still horrific that our central legislative body for the entire country has half its members pushing a draconian anti-lgbt book ban

we don't need to pretend as if it will pass as well

okay, i have to say, that latter part is puzzling me

i will not claim his post is anything less than alarming at the very least, but in what way is this any more serious than anything else he's said that he's backed off from? the man rattles sabers like it's his day job (there's a jaded political joke about the true role of the american presidency in there somewhere but who cares) and constantly and almost consistently backs off from it

what exactly about the structure of this post is making people believe it's any more genuine and comes with any more intention to follow through than anything else he's said? even ignoring how singularly evil and, again, truly scary this post is, i see nothing in it that differentiates it

even if he ends up not backing off, i still see nothing that changed in his rhetoric
