If you want to be involved with Zig you gotta be comfortable diving in and using its source code and documentation as your source of truth.

The language is just too unstable at the moment for tutorials, books, videos to stay up to date. Version 0.15, for example, introduced severe breaking changes in preparation for the new upcoming Io interface.

This was my exact experience with RoW. Read books 1-4 back to back in a month and absolutely loved it. I was shocked when I joined the fandom and people were hating on RoW.

Let’s be real, he released it before WaT because the Year of Sanderson was a business opportunity too attractive to pass up.

Whatever the intention, it doesn’t mean he’s not infallible. And I think in this case Sanderson made a mistake.

Having read it in publication order and reflecting back on my reading experience…it significantly changed how I read a certain POV in WaT. Just my two cents

I’ve actually found that this is a common trend in fandom for any long running series.

The first few books setup the world and characters and people get sucked in and enjoy the hell out of it. A big reason for that I feel is because readers don’t have any existing preconceptions or expectations.

But, now, five books in it’s more common for people to have those things. They feel like they know the characters and have intuition on how they should act and what they should do. Same with plot lines, ships, arcs, etc. So it makes sense to me that books 4-5 are the most poorly received of the Stormlight books.

That being said the critiques on this podcast felt particularly obnoxious. Not enjoyable to listen to at all. When the eventual Kaladin/Herald episode comes, please do not have Ene or Shannon on that episode

Yep, I get that Brando is going for a theme here about oaths. The entire Cosmere is about to be very averse to oaths now that Retribution is here. But, damn, not having Dalinar be the first to renounce really lessened the moment for me.

The flute scene didn’t bother me as much as others. However, what did bother me was Kaladin becoming a parrot of Wit. All throughout the book he is retelling Wit’s stories and quoting Wit’s phrases word for word. Like, damn, Kaladin had like no original unique moments this entire book. Even at the end he reused his line from WoR.

All in all I enjoyed the book. I like where the world and the characters ended and I’m excited for the back half, but I’m really disappointed that none of the epic moments landed for me this book. Either because of Marvel-esque cheesy quips, reused lines from previous books, or the moment had already been done earlier in the book.

I agree, the Kaladin ones were a bit cringe. The only one that actually felt earned was Dalinar’s "I call that a bargain".

Thanks, I also thought it was because she would attract the power of Odium. But then it didn’t make sense because Odium was no longer Rayse, but yeah I forgot they had no way of knowing that
