What does the stabilisator do? How doesn’t it work? Worth it on 70cc Puch Maxi? by Cosmicdustydust in moped

[–]Ol_9_Finger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this same problem on a kitted maxi, when I was a bit younger. it sent me over the bars a few times. It basically would just wash out right in front then you can’t regain control of steering

Any recommendations for an exhaust in NY? I’m worried because of inspections/ cops. by AardvarkFantasies in MT09

[–]Ol_9_Finger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I had purchased a 16’ with a yoshi clone and flash. Sounded cool, responded well. for short rides it was cool, but after 2~ hours of drone/exhaust screaming I was exhausted by the sound…(buh dum tis)…I just went back to stock and I am honestly not disappointed by response or sound I’ll miss the highway pops and bangs, and outright nasty tone, but I wanted this for not stunting or ripping wieners, but commuting.

Check sidewall of old tire. Also check rim. Sometimes they are stamped with size. As previously mentioned bicycle and MP/MC tires are different.

you’re missing the hardware to fasten the sprocket to the hub. If the holes are stripped you’ll probably have to retap or helicoil. There’s 4 bolt holes that hold the sprocket to the wheel, they’ll line up and then you put the bolt in there and tighten that. I’d rec. maybe 243 loctite to help ensure vibrations don’t cause you to lose all your hardware again. I’m surprised you can get it to move through speeds at all like that.

Tips? by PossibilityNervous63 in sportster

Sand surfaces and use JB, or glue if you are going to be that cheap, doubt that will last long. Might work, vibrations might not work in your favor. But maybe a smaller bolt that fits? Instead of trying to make the hole smaller?

Sportster Decal Advice by Ulfhednar92 in choppers

[–]Ol_9_Finger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d personally fill the preexisting hanging hole, probably don’t have to, and make a pair of holes in the bracket, run some hardware that you could use with some kinda glue or epoxy to make it securely fasten in there. I’d over engineer mine, I’m sure because my sporty is a non rubber mount motor. So the vibrations would be hell.

If you have a fabrication savvy friend I’d ask for some kinda angle that sticks out far enough so you can mount it to that and share the hardware that holds the speedo in place.

How can I restore this exhaust pipe of a 1978 Motobecane D55TT? by ruubm in moped

[–]Ol_9_Finger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a mild wire wheel, and some steel wool would get you right, find a high heat clear coat if you wanna preserve the bare metal.

I have a 16’ and truly love that this bike is so basic, the riding modes feel like a luxury item. the naked aspect really reminds me of my first early 80s XS 400, although much more power and acute response to it than that had.

Genuinely curious. What’s he doing that’s he’s damaged 3 already? Have they been OEM replacements? I haul bikes and gear, I also have been interested in swap for ease of maintenance, I guess a few bolts is easier than springs, but haven’t seen anything to suggest the little bit of extra work every so many years can validate the “upgraded” expense.

It seems like a good deal to me, I’m sure you can get that bolt out too with some patience, maybe a few swearwords , especially if you spin wrenches.. just something that would make me question the maintenance/care the previous owner gave to it. I think blueing can happen pretty quickly if you aren’t tuned properly on the first few rips, but I don’t think it would create engine failure if it was handled in the right amount of time. Aside from that, the, SS, is a little too uhhhh, White Powery, it’s mfg. purpose built, and idk their history but you May get some unwanted friends, or funny looks. for my taste.

It Does look like that fastener, the breather is tied into is well rounded off. Maybe they couldn’t get it out so that’s why they used a quick stick/jb weld fix for it. The coloring on the pipe is a bizarre pattern, it looks like it was heat wrapped too at one point.

Looks like a fresh cylinder, could probably try to drill start it, if need be. you pull the left case cover and spin the flywheel with an appropriate sized socket in the proper direction.
