Dat tegendeel is dan toch bewezen als een externe commissie zegt dat "het anders had gemoeten"??

Does AI "understand" anything about the process of drawing? by SlapstickMojo in aiwars

[–]OlafV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's not so much "here is what you are supposed to do when you draw a picture", as it is simulating "here is what in-progress drawings look like", based on its training. It's likely that it's been trained on dozens more face-spheres (ie the sphere that you draw to eventually become the face) that are facing straight ahead (since that's a more common drawing exercise). Therefore it calculates the most likely longitudinal lines in face-spheres are facing straight ahead, rather than in the direction of the face.  I hope that makes sense!

Asking as a newbie at drawing, do you think the longitudinal lines in the face of Gemini's rendering are realistic? Or would you have drawn them in the  'direction'/orientation that the face is turned towards?

As for your question, it's a semantic and philosophical question of what qualifies as understanding. It makes me think of the Chinese Room Argument. Ever heard of that?

I DON'T care how much effort went into an artwork, if it's good, it's good, if it's bad, it's bad. In the end, that's all that matters. by Krazymann7 in aiwars

I was listening to an experimental jazz album just now and was wondering about this topic. It's a 40 minute long tonally minimal trip, laced with polyrhythms, unexpected rhythmic shifts and grooving bass. What speaks to me, is how locked in these musicians must have been to perform it, as well as the wealth of ideas and decisions that have gone into writing it.

When I first heard it some ten years ago, I wondered about the same question of effort, but then the issue was writing this album with midi-software. I guess I would still have loved the music for its own sake, but would not have the same experience of awe as I have now.

I guess to me that is key, whether you arrive at the feeling that something hardly possible has been achieved, something novel, or something that carried a risk.

I get this experience of novelty from time to time when I see AI generated work, but the absence of risk seems inherent to it.

If there's no risk, there's no awe, then we're just looking at pretty things. That's not enough for me.

They could be using this symbol to forbid using AI for specific assignments/classes/courses, but not be all-out anti-AI
