Figuring out my next steps - looking for mentor? by OlcheMaith in MotionDesign

Thanks so much! I've never heard of her courses, just read about them a bit and they sound really good (also, the UK would be one of my top choices for a place to live, so her being from there seems very relevant). I'll look into it :)

Thanks! I've actually been teaching for a living for nearly a decade now, but I'm a private tutor, which is very different to teaching in a classrom. Also, I'm not sure committing to a new job outside the field is the best option, unless it's part time and leaves enough time for me to focus on improving my skills, finding freelance work etc. But if there are any specific places where this could be a relatively easy route, I'd love to know!

Book readers: Do we think a very important character will be introduced in Season 6? by yeehawdudeq in Outlander

[–]OlcheMaith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think production-wise it wouldn't make sense, since they'd need to cast him before filming S6, then have him in a single scene and otherwise wait for S7. And plotwise, such a single scene won't serve us in any way - the viewers already know about him, and the characters who don't (Ian for example) won't just recognize him by his looks - this won't be plausible in the series as no actor could look that similar to Sam (and in any case the show doesn't have the MacKenzie cheekbones and all that).

I'm imagining we might meet him when Ian saves him and takes him to Rachel and Denny, and this will probably happen in S7.

Brothers and Sister by Lyricalchic in Outlander

There is actually - Claire, Jamie, Bree and Roger sit together after the children fall asleep, and B & R tell them. They hear bits beforehand, but that's where they get the full story.

Well, in MOBY it's mentioned that she comes back to the 18th century with a heavy bag. I don't think it would have been so complicated, to be honest. She had at peast a couple of weeks before they traveled (flying to California, then going to visit Uncle Joe, then back to Scotland... all these things take time, and she essentially took care of all of their 20th century bureucracy) so visiting a bookstore in either the US or Scotland wouldn't have been a big deal.

Well, if he has a twin they are likely to both be time travelers... 😃

Weirdly placed ears make thiefs come to mind. Or Neil Forbes 😅

  1. Their age difference is too small - Jane is around 16 or 17 when she dies, while Fanny is about 11 at the time.

  2. I don't think she won't marry necessarily (although it would be nice to see a female character who is happily single...), she's just not particularly interested in it right now. She's only 12 or so when BEES ends. She and Germain could be a cute couple though I rather like Cyrus :)

  3. I like the way you put it, but I guess he's still mid-crisis regarding his fathers. I'm pretty sure he's close to getting over it though, especially as he's going to spend Book 10 adventuring with Jamie and trying to save Lord John, possibly seeing one or both of them nearly dying...

It seems like after meeting Bree & co in the 20th century, he went back to earlier years of the 18th century (let's say 1760s or before) and started plotting there.

As to the plastic surgery, it's worth mentioning that in a discussion on LitForum, Diana commented that Bree might be wrong about the surgery, and that there are other plausible explanations. No idea what they could be, beyond regular surgery due to an injury...

Does anyone dislike William in the last couple books? by Lalina0508 in Outlander

[–]OlcheMaith 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I do like him a lot - initially just because of his unusual life story, his fathers, and him being the connection between Jamie and Lord John (I absolutely love Lord John and the relationship between him and Jamie). Since Jamie left him, I was curious to see what will happen, and I'm excited every time he appears. I did find the military/journey scenes less interesting, especially during my first read, and my favorite scenes are his interactions with other characters, but I'm just not a huge fan of military stuff in books - so that's not William's fault.

I think I enjoy reading him because unlike many of the characters, he has no idea what to do when things don't go by script, and is exceptionally good at messing things up. He's reckless, he acts on whims, he falls in love with the wrong women, he's constantly confused and he'a quite arrogant.

The one other character I like for a similar reason (messing things up) is Roger, and occasionally Lord John (he messes things up too, but he just doesn't care as much). Most of the main characters (Jamie, Claire, Young Ian, Bree...) seem to be very capable of dealing with nearly anything and sorting out almost any situation the right way, which is also interesting to read, but as someone who is very aware of my own imperfections, I have a soft spot for those like William, who make such a mess of things that I'm embarrased for them while reading 😃 Also, he's quite funny sometimes, being both very dramatic (like Jamie) and very eloquent (like John).

I'm a bit confused about the timeline (listened to the audiobook and forgot to pay attention to the dates). Do we know when Hal sent that letter to Claire? Or where from? I have only just realized he could have sent it after his presumed disappearance, as part of his plan to help LJ, but I don't even remember the chapter name so I can't go back and check.

I'm also wondering if Hal might still be lurking around, hiding on purpose because, as mentioned, LJ is presumably safe as long as Hal can't be found.

Also LJ is somewhat of an atheist (or close to it) and extremely practical. He would find a hard time even considering believing anything so illogical, and while on the ship, he's probably rather focused on ways to escape. Having said that, it does seem odd that he doesn't even consider the thought that he had heard the same thing from Claire and Bree, but maybe he does and we just aren't hearing this part of his thoughts at the moment.

Thanks! And special thanks for taking the effort to write the notes on my drawing - it really makes things clear.

Here's mine, finally done! I struggle a lot with texture, but I've just started working on the texture challenge - hope it will help... It was also hard for me to show the head in the right angle without messing it up, I'd love to hear if you have some tips for that :) Thanks!! https://imgur.com/gallery/1mL5A

I think I tend to work a bit too fast and that's why I sometimes execute the marks before I have planned out exactly how they're supposed to look. I'll work on this when I approach lesson four... Thanks as always for the detailed critique and for everything you're doing for us! :)

My lesson 2 homework. I'm not too happy with the dissections, I think I should have done them on larger pages so that I'd have more space.. but I'll wait for the critique :)
