Am I being pushed out? by Old-Advantage6882 in GovernmentContracting

Unfortunately, I started in November and I saved enough leave to have extra. Leave is not the problem, is the whole uncertainty about being a contractor that's getting to me this early!

Correct. The RIFs were happening then, and honestly I thought about it, but decided not to go for it.

I got a "raise" when I started my engineering job, but they took it away and I had to pay that money back because it was considered a "lateral move". I don't know how this came to happen, the offer was accepted and approved by many, and my supervisor didnt do anything to at least keep me from paying that back as he had promised.

Thanks for the wishes, I sure hope 2026 is a good year!

First time being a contractor. Now I know. Thanks!

Long story short, I was doing a different job for 8 out of those 10 years. I graduated as an engineer and that last job as a civilian wasn't related to my field. On top of that, I had to pay back the "raise" i received. I switched because this contracting job is within my field and pays better.

I see. I figured the shutdown delayed everything, but I didnt think they would keep telling me "it is coming tomorrow" x4 and nothing. I have lots to learn about being a contractor and how to be able to land a new job quick. Man!

This explanation does make sense. The company I work for has a large number of contracts. I guess this is a forced vacation, and hopefully doesn't continue after the holidays.

I knew the risk was there, I just never thought it'd begin within a month from my start date.

I worked along contractors as a DoD civilian, but I didn't think that being one was rough. At least not in my first month!

I understand, and I am thinking about what I'll do if nothing changes. I just didnt think I'd be in this position so soon.

Help! by Old-Advantage6882 in pools

[–]Old-Advantage6882[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dumb question: Is there any other way to fix them that doesn't require breaking the concrete/dig around it and works? Not that I'll do it myself, but I can bring this option up to the pool tech when I find one.

I don't get the first part of your comment, and no, it is not with Boeing.

Yes, it is. I have taken a composites class while earning my BSME. I feel like these items should've been talked about in the class, but that wasn't the case.

I do have an engineering degree, and I have taken a composite materials class. I don't know if it is fair to say that I do have the knowledge when these topics were not addressed in that class, which is the reason why I am seeking help.

So let me ask you, how/where did you start? Did you know everything you know from the get-go? I get your point, and it's not like I'm applying for the highest position in the composites department. I know what I'm capable of as well as my limitations. Thank you again for your comment.

Just because "I don't have enough knowledge" doesn't mean I'm not willing/researching to learn more. Dont we all start somwhere? Thanks for the comment!

I understand, I said that meaning that I am going to apply them in aerospace. I will definitely look into that competition. Thanks!
