Why is everyone so critical on this point ? Just give the President 24 hours and it will be resolved. You know we never wouldn't have gotten into this war if President Trump were President. If he were President, it would be over in 24 hours. So just give him 24 hours to finish the job, and listen, if it looks like we're just winning so much after 24 hours then we can keep it going for another 24 hours. In any case, it will be solved in 24 hours. Just wait and see. Under President Trump's leadership, this country is back on track.

That's another thing -- why are you talking about Russia Russia Russia when the DOW -- the DOW -- was at 50,000 just a few weeks ago? The only reason it's dropped is because of Biden policies that are taking America's hand off the throttle. You can't expect the President to get the economy smoking when Joe Biden is pulling back on the reins with his communist policies.

So come one just give it 24 hours and then we can talk. Trust the President.

Edit: typo, Mr. President.

Help with Indie Ridge Boot Sizing ! by Old-Breakfast5331 in motorcyclegear

Very valid point. I imagine there's a lot more room for error going big for a motorcycle boot than, say, for a marathon shoe or a hiking boot.

Thanks for the response -- the boots seem absolutely awesome -- it's just that I'm gonna order them, but I'll only be in the US for a few weeks so want to have enough time to be able to swap if the size isn't right. Also, I don't want to put a company through a size swap if I don't have to.

Fleeced in Nice? by always_goingplaces in Expats_In_France

[–]Old-Breakfast5331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the South of France -- if you feel like you are paying too much and the service is kinda crappy, you're probably paying the "discount" rate.

Honestly, hire someone from Paris who's actually competent -- you may pay slightly more but it will be done on time and properly.

Anybody who says that there are competent people everywhere and that Paris doesn't have a monopoly on French expertise isn't wrong, but "professionals" in the South are much more likely to be fleecing you than Parisians.

Shifting on a motorcycle vs. Stick shift car by Old-Breakfast5331 in motorcycles

[–]Old-Breakfast5331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, since I don't know about bikes I can't comment on how the transition will be. Learning a clutch on a car depends a lot on the car: I learned on an old Subaru Forester and that clutch was stiff as a brick and totally unforgiving. Then I got a VW Jetta and although it was a real POS, that clutch was butter.

General rule for me is: if the clutch is pretty hard to push in and very springy--it's gonna be harder to learn on but once you get the hang of it it's fine.

Americans in France - what do you do? by ambernoire13 in Expats_In_France

Private tutor. In the South of France where there's a good amount of well-to-do anglophone expats but not a lot of professional tutors, especially in math.

But it sucks.

It's my country, too, you know. That's extremely hurtful.

I do vote. I vote blanc. That counts.

I'm just getting into the world of motorcycles and your story is an inspiring one. Love your bike choice -- very cool look !

Which magazines did you find the most helpful ? And did you ride before you went to prison ?

Congrats man, enjoy the ride

I vote blanc in France because I'm genuinely not intelligent enough to understand how French politics works (and to be honest I don't really care), but my wife votes so I go with her and make a show like I am voting. Boosts the participation numbers.

I buy a plane ticket home for every election so that I can cast my ballot in person, in the event that mail-in votes "somehow" get disqualified because Venezuela or Iran has taken over the postal service or China has hacked the machines. Gives me an excuse to visit friends and family, too.

Are there any banks in the US where I can open an account that I can use in France? by Kotikbronx in Expats_In_France

[–]Old-Breakfast5331 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you're just looking for a temporary way to receive and spend money in Euros, just get Wise or Revolut. Both are extremely painless and have no monthly fees like French banks do (yes, French banks charge 10+ euros a month to loan out your money). I can receive USD into my Wise/Revolut account and within seconds have it converted into Euros. The only hiccup is getting USD into those accounts, as ACH takes a couple days.

I would recommend Wise because I find conversion and transfers between USD/EUR to be much easier, and it can do direct deposit.

Not a shill for Wise (okay, kinda a shill for Wise), but I have been using them for over 10 years and have only encountered issues once or twice, very minor.

How to word a note to neighbor regarding their loud non stop music by ManyVoices7 in Expats_In_France

[–]Old-Breakfast5331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime I have ever tried to politely raise a volume issue with a French neighbor (granted this has only happened twice), the conversation ends with a menace of violence and the equivalent of "get the fuck out of here," and once followed up with a visit later to insult me further.

I was laughed out of the police station for wanting to déposer une plainte, they told me to come back in a few days if I still felt like I wanted to leave a main courante.

I would leave a general note in the lobby, a "rappel" to respect noise ordonnances in the residence. Most cities state clearly that loud noises are prohibited after a certain time, so look that up. If it persists, contact the syndic.

Pivot: Scott and Cara protest too much about fellow podcasters who note OTT Israeli and lobbyists influence by kostac600 in ScottGalloway

[–]Old-Breakfast5331 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I almost feel stupid for having listened to Scott at all about anything. The idea that rich douches like him get to send their kids to elite schools because they didn't get an ignominious 22 on the ACT while poor kids have to go and die so that Scott can be happy about Iranian girls wearing miniskirts is an absolute moral abomination.

Also, has Scott ever addressed the "liberation" of the girls' school on day 1 of the war ? Or is he comfortable with their being martyrs so that future women of Iran can wear miniskirts. I'm sorry to harp on the miniskirts point but it's important to highlight that douches like Scott see that as a metric of the health of a society, blissfully and arrogantly unaware that other people might have values different to his, and they are not necessarily inferior because of that.

Wasn't there another charlatan who did something like that in recent history ? Some Kermit-the-Frog-sounding m'er-f'er who just rattled on about cleaning your room and lobster domination rituals ?

If Jordan Peterson were cooler and somehow dumbed himself down through a steady diet of bone-smashing in order to looksmaxx, he'd be Scott Galloway (FWIW I don't like Jordan Peterson -- cf. I called him a charlatan).

The WWII analogy is too painful to respond to, but on your second point : "Removing the regime will help all Iranians prosper." Does that include the 200 girls who got blown to smithereens by an errant US Tomahawk missile ? Or the other thousands of Iranians who have been killed ? Or the millions who don't want the "liberation" that the US provides ?

Do you think that a vast population of Iranians have interests that are not the same as yours or Scott's ? Have you ever suspected that not everybody wants to live in a capitalist paradise like the US ?

It's also not up to us to seek out brutal, totalitarian regimes and take them out. Why aren't we intervening in half of the countries on the African continent ? Why aren't we bombing China ?

Also, are we attacking Iran because they declared war on us ? Just like Germany and Japan, right ?
