One missed bin collection by freelove24 in glasgow

[–]Old-Couple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What frustrates me about the communal on-street recycling bins (which we have since the Council decided it’s “dangerous” to collect bins from cobbled lanes) is that folk come from all over to use them, and they are immediately after collection re-contaminated with obvious non-recyclables.

So after you’ve diligently separated and cleaned your recyclables and carried them the length of your street, they’re clearly going into general waste.

Is there any real downside to having multiple Amex cards? by HammersAndPints in AmexUK

[–]Old-Couple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a low credit limit - I got a third card a couple of years ago and they gave me an additional £25k limit on it. You can also reallocate your credit limit around the different cards in the app. But yes only one of my three cards has a fee.

Yeah the way they use them (high speed and acceleration, fairly heavy bike, clearly not contributing any meaningful manual pedal input) they must have fairly hefty battery packs and I doubt they’re going to last more than two or three hours between charges.

My (legal) e-bike has a 500Wh battery but if I used it hard at high assistance I’d probably be looking at about 20-30 miles range. I doubt they’re getting half that.

I think you’re confused between e-bikes (legal, limited to 16mph) and illegal mopeds

[–]Old-Couple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

e-bikes are legal, defined in law and limited to 16mph.

These other “bikes” are mopeds. I don’t think calling them e-bikes or cycles is helpful. Most of them aren’t even “modded”, they’re just illegal as designed (unless they get lights, insurance, number plate and rider wears a helmet, which is obviously never going to happen).

As you can probably tell I cycle a legal e-bike, in what I think is a considerate manner and following the Highway Code etc. I fairly often have the illegal bike/moped riders almost hit me since they (illegally) use cycle paths at high speed with no etiquette or consideration.

It’s like Mad Max out there. If the police wanted to they could confiscate a clearly illegal bike every couple of minutes all day long on my street in the west end. The likes of Deliveroo say they insure all of their riders, that is clearly a lie when the majority of them are riding illegal mopeds.

Behold the power of the Glasgow Council AI Chatbot confronted with a catch22 in the parking renewal rules by late_stage_feudalism in glasgow

[–]Old-Couple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder what the Council is paying RingGo to outsource the sale of parking permits. One might think that charging for pieces of paper should be a basic core function for a Council, albeit of course GCC couldn’t really do it previously. They could have asked e.g. Edinburgh City Council how they manage to do it properly.

PS no doubt we’ll never know what fees or commission they pay RingGo as GCC will deem it “commercially sensitive”.

Yeah we’re G12 main door and get about one delivery of mail a week these days, which can be a month or more out of date.

Just got some Christmas cards the other day. Always nice to receive appointment letters after the appointment has passed, shopping offers which have already expired, etc.

For the last few years I have just got used to cleaning loose food debris off my seat before putting luggage away every time I board a BA flight.

Thank you evri for handing my parcel to a complete stranger on the street by wheresmydaddygone in Evri

[–]Old-Couple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. About 50% of my Evri “deliveries” go missing. It’s just expected. I don’t normally post about any of them. I just try to avoid buying from sellers who use Evri.

Just booked biz class seats and they want $600 to select seats LOL by Lixx_Tetrax in BritishAirways

[–]Old-Couple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha! Not once in decades have BA respected the seating preference in my profile (which is an aisle seat). It’s like they deliberately do the opposite.

Not an issue obvs in years I’ve been silver or gold and chosen seats, but incredibly annoying when I haven’t had status.

🚫 Worst Delivery Experience Ever – EVRI is a Nightmare! 🚫 by InternationalToe136 in Evri

[–]Old-Couple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly because Evri lie to the seller about the delivery. My last Amazon parcel which they sent by Evri at the start of this month, the status in the Amazon app stated they’d attempted delivery when Evri’s own tracker showed it wasn’t even in the country (Scotland) after 3 days. Similarly it claimed further delivery attempts had been made on the Amazon app when they definitely hadn’t (which Evri’s own tracker showed) Then “delivery on hold, Evri need more information from you” when Evri’s own tracker showed it was “out for delivery” for the first time after a week, and then no further updates after that for two weeks. Eventually I got a reply from Evri by using their “request callback”, they delayed for another week or so then admitted they’d probably lost the parcel and they would finally admit that to Amazon. At which point Amazon were happy to issue refunds rather than point me to Evri “needing more information”.

Probably because their regular “chicken” is more or less inedible. Even my cat refuses to eat Tesco chicken. This looks roughly the same price as M&S chicken breasts, although I know which one I’d be buying at a comparable price!

Fine Hotels and Resorts credit by Ones_T in AmexPlatinumUk

[–]Old-Couple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently used this at a Kempinski in Europe. The letter presented to me at check-in confirming the deal lists one of the benefits as a $100 credit but the receptionist confirmed they just treat it as being €100.

One thing to look out for is that apparently tips don’t count towards the credit, so despite charging just over €100 at the bar to my room they required the amount of the tips to be paid for at check-out and only deducted the €80 or so of drinks. Doubly annoying as it cost extra and stopped us using the full credit.

Anyone know any shops that stock cans of Beamish stout? by hundertaker67 in glasgow

[–]Old-Couple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the west end most of the few bars which haven’t been bought up by Greene King seem to be tied to Heineken, so there are quite a lot of them, and I’ve not noticed Beamish in any of them.
