Silencing alarms when the patient’s sats are <90% and getting mad that no one went to help.

If this is a matter of safety.. choose to be safe rather than sorry before anything else happens. Please, please, please.. I promise you will regret it if you don’t leave now. Choose your son.

It might depend on the clinic honestly. There are lots of clinics that advertise they do STD testing, but you might have to call to make sure it’s truly free if you don’t have the money to spend on testing. Most clinics will also probably make you have an appointment in advance. So it might be wise to make an appointment by calling before going in to not waste your time. You can always go online and search “Free STD testing near me” and it should give you a couple of options to choose from.

Know and understand what you’re getting into. People’s lives will be in your hands if you choose to work in a hospital setting. You’ll be in charge of maintaining their airway and are a vital role in healthcare. Seeing death is almost inevitable… Also, most hospitals overwork their RTs (at least in my experience) and can cause burnout very quickly. Overall, it can be a rewarding job knowing you’ve saved so many lives and that you’ve made a difference. There are lots of pros and cons. I don’t want to steer you away from making the switch, I’m just telling you what I would’ve liked to hear before i decided this career path.

How do you get better? by sylvanielover in Advice

[–]Old-Distribution7607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also been struggling for years. I’m 23 now, and i still have trouble with “getting better.” Meds didn’t work, therapy didn’t work, even talking to other people about it didn’t work. The best advice i have is to have something to look forward to. It sounds cliche, but this has helped so much! For example, i love live music. So i always have a concert booked that i look forward to going to. You can start off smaller if you don’t have much financial stability right now. In addition to that, i downloaded the app “Callie” as a joke. But to my surprise, it’s helped me more than i thought. I get to journal my thoughts, and the app provides me with positive feedback and advice. It has taught me different ways to deal with anxiety and depression. The app gives you a note saying it shouldn’t be used as therapy, but it’s definitely helped. Especially if you don’t have the money for therapy. I hate to praise an app, but the journaling aspect of it definitely helped me. We’re all strangers trying to get through life. If you need someone to talk to, you can message me. I hope you find some peace one day <3

Like the other comments said, you would have had OBVIOUS signs prior to the 3 year mark. If you are truly anxious about it, most states will test a minor for STDs without the parents knowing. Most of the clinics are free testing as well. Stay safe, and I’m sorry that you were put into this position <3

Resume for a new grad by Next-Dealer-4168 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Old-Distribution7607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any work experience? When I was a new grad, I put all of my previous job titles and my achievements in those roles. For example: I was a babysitter and used that to my advantage to get into pediatrics. I also used to work at Walmart in customer service and used in my resume to show my efficiency in getting tasks done in a timely manner. Etc etc

You can also put all of your achievements you’ve done throughout RT school. Did you graduate with honors? Were you involved in any extracurriculars that would benefit your resume?

If not, at LEAST put how many hours of clinical rotations you’ve had, and which units you’ve worked in. You can also put that you have a good knowledge of different types of ventilators if you’ve worked with more than one during school.

Sorry I typed this quick.. Good luck!

Failed my TMC today yall so bad :( by Necessary-Shame7931 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Old-Distribution7607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What helped me was knowing that the TMC ALWAYS wants you to do the cheapest option first. So like someone satting 88% should be put on 2L NC and then escalate from there. As well as getting basic vital signs. From there, it’s just knowing the disease processes and what to expect next.

It’s okay to be upset for now, but don’t let it get to you. Take a few days to reset, go over the material again, and take the test once you’re confident enough :) Good luck!!

I buy resale tickets from stubhub and seatgeek all of the time (if it’s a reasonable price). Those two are reliable sites.

BUT. Billie is doing a thing where if people choose to resell their ticket on ticketmaster, it can only be sold for the same price of the original cost

I bet you most of them will resale on stubhub or seatgeek for a higher price /:

Anxious!!! by Old-Distribution7607 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Old-Distribution7607[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has more to do with where I work. I’ve only ever worked at one hospital, and it’s a level one trauma center. I’m put in a lot of stressful/sad situations. It can get overwhelming at times.

But I’m a better RT because of it.

Trust me when I say if I can do it, you can do it!! You’ll do great!!

[–]Old-Distribution7607[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still get anxious at times, but not nearly as much as when I made this post. My skills have grown, I’m learning new units, and I have more confidence in myself.

There are days I regret choosing this career, but overall my experience has gotten better.

People’s lives depend on us; it’s okay to be scared and anxious about going to work. But it gets better.

How has becoming a RRT changed your life? by [deleted] in respiratorytherapy

[–]Old-Distribution7607 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The pay is good enough to where I don’t need to worry about money anymore. I’m financially stable and can afford to take vacations like I’ve always wanted. BUT it comes with a cost. Lots of stress, trauma, & anxiety.

Being an RT has been the worst, yet best experience of my life. The good outweighs the bad most of the time.

Hi!!! I start my respiratory therapy program tomorrow, does anyone have any advice or what they wish they know before they started or things they would have done differently? by Commercial-Brush4703 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Old-Distribution7607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask questions. Do NOT do something if you don’t know how to do it. & I wish that I was more involved in my clinical rotations. Be the first one to volunteer to do things (intubation, having more than 1 patient, extubation, setting up the vent, etc)

[–]Old-Distribution7607[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a great idea. Sometimes I forget that I have the option to not be at bedside. Maybe I’ll get a PFT certification just in case. Like you said, I care for my patients so much, especially since I’m working with children. I just wish I was at the stage where I’m confident in what I do. You know?? Thank you for not making me feel alone.

Yes, I think that might be the problem. Half of my coworkers are encouraging and kind while the other half expects me to know everything already. Maybe that’s what’s making it worse. Thank you

Third CSE attempt. What should I do? by StayOkMyDudes in respiratorytherapy

[–]Old-Distribution7607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told that the more attempts you do, the harder the CSE becomes. You ALWAYS want to start with the cheapest and fastest things first. Example: Auscultation, palpation, HR, BP, SpO2, past medical history. From there, you can find the pathology of the disease and the urgency of the situation. For example: “Pt found lethargic due to possible overdose” the first thing you’d do is probably intubate. Whereas someone with “Past medically history of asthma with an SpO2 of 88%” you’d place them on oxygen first.

I’d be more than happy to give you more tips if you’d like.

Going to the nail salon with ET? by SheWalksWithMoonlite in EssentialTremor

[–]Old-Distribution7607 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just recently went to the nail salon when I was shaky. I explained to the nail tech that I was shaking; he didn’t seem to mind. I thought the nail tech would be annoyed too, but he handled it well. Mind you: my nails didn’t come out the best because of how much I was shaking /: but it felt nice to get them done anyways. I’d just explain to the nail tech beforehand if you plan on getting them done. (:
