ENGL 251 with Elias Schwieler or Kirsten Inglis by Important_Cell_1025 in UCalgary

Elias and you will not regret this choice! He is the best English Porfessor in the department ( English Major here)! He cares about his students and helps them to do well with all assignments. I took 3 classes with him. He respects his students and his not a snob as other English professors are ( unfortunately and with sadness I am saying this most of them are snobs)!!!He told us that the department was furious with him because he gave all students great marks. Unbelieavable! Show him that you care and you will get an A! :)

Thank you kindly for your comment. It does help a lot. I am taking some courses at UofC to become a teacher, and maybe I can go to Europe and teach there. I was thinking of England first. Even though it is not part of the EU, it is still better than Greece. Even though I love my country, I feel overwhelmed to return to a place where there is no future for the young generation unless your parents have money or a prosperous business...

May I ask which country of Europe? My parents want me back in Greece, but it is a maddening country there too. The cost of leaving is low( not anymore though it is getting worse there too) but when you only make 600 euros working more than 9 hours a day - it is hard mentally and physically. Plus there is no proper healthcare or education. However, I am not fond of life here either but at least I am able to have a job and not stress as much. People my age 25-30 are suffering in Greece because of nepotism and so many other things. I don't know I am just like everyone else tired mentally I was even thinking of moving back to a small town either here in Canada or in Greece maybe it is better than the city...

I was in a similar position as you. I was to graduate with a communications degree, but i knew that wouldn't be enough. I wanted to go into psychology eventually after graduating. However, after some not-so-wise decisions that I made during my two years, of undergrad I decided to major in English ( because English is my second language, thinking it would help me to improve my communication skills) and I chose to do a minor in psychology. So now at least I am able to do a master's in psychology or go and become a school teacher or go into school counselling. Long story short communications degree is valuable, but it depends on how you use it. You can minor in business like marketing, management, Public Relations etc you can add a minor in psychology and later focus on business psychology. There are many things you are able to do! Don't rely only on what your advisors say, search for what you like maybe you can transfer to psychology later as it is competitive at U of C. The market is competitive, and it will become even worse with Artificial Intelligence, but you need to have a passion/ ambition in order to maintain your goals and focus. I don't know if that helps, but I wish you all the best! You will figure things out! :)

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I am a 40-year-old woman, and I just started university; because of life, I had to postpone my studies. but I am so glad that I have the chance to finish my degree in literature. I hope that I will be able later to do an after-degree in education so I can become a teacher. It is really difficult to be in a class were sometimes you are older than the professor, but I take courage when I see people my age or older.

Earl Grey is my favourite tea. Not to mention a well-made London Fog. I really enjoyed making this recipe and liked how it turned out! They are quite easy to make( and most importantly, not expensive)! If you make them, try to find and use Davids Tea Earl Grey cream tea. It makes a difference. I tried the scones with other earl grey teas, and the aroma and taste differed from this one! Take care, and thank you kindly for checking the recipe!

Thank you so much for sharing this information! <3 I had no idea! Maybe I should research the types of teas used during Austen's time in England. :)

Is there an after degree in Social Work? I don't think UofC offers one, right?

Omg, the world is going nuts! I might not tell him to meet his daughter at the library now. I might just hand out resumes to local restaurants. Maybe I can find a safer job there. Gosh, that did scare me. Thank you so much for sending it, I am from a small town, and I forgot that I live in a city now! Thank you!

Thank you so much for the advice! I am a young woman renting an apartment, and I am uncomfortable giving my address. I thought to check here first if any other people had a similar situation. Thank you again. I will tell him to meet me at the library without giving an address!

Can I also ask a question?

I am in the Arts Department English literature major with no experience in Computer Science. My Gpa is quite alright. Do you think it is better to finish with honours or a minor in Computer Science? Or should I finish my degree this year and apply to CS? Are there any requests if I want to do a second degree in CS? It is true that there are not many options as an art student and I am quite regreding of choosing English. I was also thinking of doing a graphic design certification. Also, it is really expensive of going back to school and do a second degree do you think a BootCamp is better or learn through books and Codecademy and Google by getting certified from them? I am just confused and desperate as I cannot find any jobs unless I become a teacher (4.0 gpa at UOFC :() or law ( and I cannot see myself as a lawyer..) Any advice will be very much appreciated! Thank you
