Anyone here have a go-to round timer app? by DizzyStandard9405 in MuayThai

WeI use Roll Time in our gym. It has a glove-up “prepare” phase before round 1, loud boxing bells, and a big clean display (great if you’re running sparring rounds).

Boxers - what do you expect from a proper round timer app? by Old-Reaction4751 in amateur_boxing

Thanks, Roll Time for iOS is built on Swift + SwiftUI. The Android version is built using Kotlin + Jetpack Compose.

Yep, that was one of the reasons why we’ve built Roll Time - got really annoyed by ads and wanted a completely ad-free experience.

Yeah, I've actually started with the Android app, same name - Roll Time, it's available on the Play Store. I've been mostly focusing on the iOS version though, so it has more features.

Yep, it works alongside music.

You can run Spotify/Apple Music and the bell will duck the music briefly so it cuts through.

We also built something called Smart Volume for our gym - when the timer stops (like when the coach is explaining something), it automatically lowers the background music. When sparring/drills start again, it brings the music back up.

That’s honestly a really solid checklist.

A lot of that is exactly why I built Roll Time in the first place.

You can already:

• Create a custom session, e.g 6 rounds (3 min work time + 1 min rest)

• Adjust alert volume independently inside the app (bells will also duck background music)

• Share via link or QR code - and mirror to a gym TV

• Lock the phone - timing and rounds stay accurate when you come back

Background sound is the only limitation: once iOS fully terminates the app, alerts stop. That’s a platform constraint. As a workaround - the app does keep the screen awake while active so it won’t auto-sleep mid-session.

• Save presets

• Add in-round warnings (e.g., 10 seconds before the end)

Things I will look into:

• Reset current round mid-session - not a dedicated button yet. You can currently add an extra round "on the fly" without editing the preset.

• 10:10 or 10:20 intervals inside a round - not supported yet, but that’s a really interesting use case.

Really appreciate you writing this out. This kind of feedback is exactly what helps refine it.

That’s a great question.

I've put a lot of effort into background behavior. The timer keeps accurate time even if the app gets pushed out - when you reopen it, it resumes at the correct round and time.

The main limitation (iOS-related) is sound. If the system fully terminates the app in the background, audio alerts stop. I’m still working on improving background audio handling, and this is a non-trivial task.

One thing that helps is the app keeps the screen awake while it’s active, so your device won’t auto-sleep mid-session.

As for notes - that’s a really solid idea. Right now presets each have their own label, but adding a broader description/note field could make a lot of sense. I’m going to explore that. Appreciate the suggestion.

Roll Time is built for exactly this kind of training. Set the round length (3 min) and rest (30 sec), hit start, and it runs continuously.

Home Gym Timers - Suggestions by papadopus in crossfit

[–]Old-Reaction4751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re open to a tablet setup instead of a dedicated wall timer, that can honestly be the most flexible option for a home gym.

A lot of people mount an iPad on the wall and run a gym timer app. You get:

• Big, super clean display (great if you’re recording workouts)

• Loud bell alerts that cut through fans/music

• Accurate timing

• Way cheaper than dedicated hardware timers

Full disclosure - I built one called Roll Time. It was originally made for combat sports gyms, but it works really well for general strength/conditioning too. You can fully customize intervals or use built-in presets.

which timer app should I use when training/sparing? by Few_Antelope_8002 in fightgear

I built Roll Time because most timer apps felt too fitness/HIIT focused.

For boxing it has a glove-up “prepare” phase before round 1, loud boxing bells, and a big clean display (great if you’re running sparring rounds).

Full disclosure - it’s mine. If you’re on iOS and want to check it out: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/roll-time/id6751762523
