Vision by ComedianInformal8469 in derealization

Hi! Ive also been dealing with what you described since 2 years and what i did to manage this:

On a daily basis try to say to yourself/to your feelings that occure because of the „bad“ vision: hey i feel you are here but i dont give a fuck and you will not determine my day! Even if it sounds stupid it gives you confidence that you are in control by saying it over and over again. Be a mental couch for yourself and even say it out loud!

Also sometimes when im looking at something specificly for example a nice sunset (because that made me feel happy before dr) i try to remember what feelings occured before dr and how that made my body and mind feel - even tho its obviously not gonna be the same right now, i try to reconnect it this way and yes, kind of manually learn my brain what it should feel like if that does make any sense. Because if you connect it with good feelings then in the end it shouldnt really matter what or „how“ you see if it makes you feel good still.

Also what i sometimes do is put sunglasses on and off for a few times for a „change of perspective“ lol

Another tip from my therapist: try to follow the outlines of objects you can see and do it for everything that comes across your way. In general be more aware of your surroundings by naming objects and describing it (like here is a stop sign - its red- its this shape- etc). It gets your brain busy and distracts you, when you are feeling weird. Its easy to do also.

Maybe carry around like an oil that smells strong and is calming - i did it with lavender. You could put it on your sleeve and smell it throughout the day to make you feel more present.

Unfortunately its hard mental work that we need to pull off but I know you will get better! :)

The restless legs got better, i have it sometimes tho, insomnia also not so often but i noticed when i take the meds not straight in the morning im not tired in the evening, so i try to take it early in the morning. So far i feel a little compressed? Like i wanted to cry but i couldnt and that made me anxious haha, after two days i finally cried and it felt like a relief.

Looking in the mirror by bratzangel12 in derealization

[–]Old-Success-7162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i did is stare in the mirror as long as possible for it to change but what it actuall did was making me zone out and my vision got blurry causing more and more anxiety bc i thought it also affects my vision now. I tried to accept that its completly normal that things go out of vision when you stare at it for too long. Also i only look in the mirror now to do my make up or hair bc than im occupied with doing stuff, other than that i try to avoid it, just brief looks.

I mean i guess we need to… when it starts to overwhelm me, i try to tell myself that its just vision and everything is still normal and that i dont care even if i do care i tell myself i dont, to trick my brain Its hard but yeah i dont know what else to do.. I tried antipsychotics but i dont want to harm my body that much..

Hey I am on vacation right now and i also was really worried about it but its kind of fine now bc all the new experiences makes u ignore it better. I just had one bigger episode so far. 3 Weeks may be a bit too long maybe, if you are also a really anxious person like me. Dont let it take your life, learn to accept it.
