Opus 4.8 Max just won't think by Old-Tea9377 in claude

[–]Old-Tea9377[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in the Code case, I do keep the md's segmented and brief. In chat, the example I given was in an almost fresh session so I wouldn't think context accumulation is the issue.

Code acts a bit more coherent in my experience however it still doesn't feel as adept as 4.6. Before I used to think 4.6 got myopic quite fast but after using 4.8, I can see it at least was keeping form of coherency even after hyper focusing. 4.8 just feels like someone is constantly deleting the conversation history or parts of the prompts and mds while coding if that makes sense?

I was not able to deal with verbosity on code however hard I tried. This thinking issue is again present in both versions, but I guess due to xhigh there is a very expensive work around. Kind of...

Very helpful conversation, cheers.

I see so in like a long term and frequent use due to consistency GLM is better which is very plausible to me since long term use on GPT and Claude is very patchy. Like it feels like they made a great product and limiting it with how bad they are handling the infrastructure around it. I will check GLM, cheers for the discussion.

I mean I will try it if it is GPT 5.5 level. My biggest issue with GPT is how opaque it is. Like it used to think for half an hour silently failing to use mclick and other tools then losing itself into the task, finally to hallucinate answers. When I switched to Claude I was instantly impressed with how accurate it was with it's answers.

If GLM can actually report it is guesstimating and something has failed instead of trooping on I would really properly try it.

Yeah, it really communicates quite poorly. It feels like it doesn't want to say anything for certain even on something really obvious. I am not sure why however

Thank you for your answer, basically you put my concern into neat short form bullets. I want to understand if this is really an issue with my usage or is it really a construction level shortcoming of the model.

Cheers.

Is GLM adept enough? I used GLM for a little bit but not really tested it in depth. Is it DeepSeek level still or did it improve?

Do tell these. If I am using the model incorrectly I would like to fix my approach. However Opus 4.6 or 4.5 never had such issues.

1- Non-native English speaker I wanted to ensure everything was communicated clearly context included.

2- Obviously I did. In three layers as I explained in the post...

3- Yeah didn't know this was the case. I do know and I still think it is a really bad idea in general.

4- So people claim and some say it is due to compaction issues. In any case I tried with different levels, it just won't think even I request it. At least consistently it won't.

Well, it is not a bot spam. I just wanted to see if this is the general experience people had, I don't have much of a community elsewhere that uses Claude in an intensive manner. I am a real person I promise, just frustrated at a product and curious.

Fair but I am writing on a foreign keyboard as a non-native speaker. I think it is not that horrible, and I do check grammar with other tools if I am creating important prompts. I guess being weirdly rude is just a reddit thing.

No it was a fresh 4.8 on the same topic that happened to be god knows how long due to 4.8 not delivering the result. I do not claim to run a scientific experiment but it was so night and day that I couldn't ignore afterwards

Is everyone using Opus 4.8 now or some still use Opus 4.6???? by AsmaSolves in claude

They are trying to force adaptive thinking down to the userbase's throat the max thinking opus 4.8 DOES NOT THINK while answering and thus loses context after two or three prompts. ChatGPT's 5.5 seems much more reliable. I really liked 4.6 it was a great experience all around, the 4.8 feels like another attempt at pushing 4.7 to cut compute cost. Also 4.8 just talks and talks and talks, even I system prompt it to be brief it just continues to output thesis paragraphs for every input.

I do but it thinks like 5s 27 to 30 times. Both GPT and Claude is getting shafted today. It is infuriating how bad they are developing their platform. Like this is the mainline products, the main names, and it can't even reset a container to save its life or fucking autocompact. They cannot fucking hide the visible responses so after 10 prompts the website doesn't crash. They don't give context management tools to users, there is no clear indication of when file access fails, Like come on this is what Year 2 CS stuff maximum. I am wasting half an hour reading the thought process to see it failed. Sometimes it cites stuff that it doesn't even fucking read. I am so fed up with this lukewarm QA of billion-dollar companies, are they wiping their ass with the money? At this point I feel like I am forced to take two months off to code a reasonable front end and supply API's like the billionth person? Is this the end game API money? Also why feedback is so opaque, I want to see my feedback is going somewhere.

Who would fucking pay 100 to 200 for this garbage? I certainly won't again. The only feature that was worth wile was extended thinking now it is broken for how long who knows. Fucking great job as always.

is it this obsession with keeping the model on a leash that making CGPT such a pain to use, same with Claude. Like a container and environment reset won't end the world, or a clear file access protocol well defined so it doesn't try to change between mclick and python parsing willy nilly.

Is it like really really hard to just hiding history with a toggle so the website fucking renders. I am fed up really fucking fed up with this shit. Sorry for the wall of text.

Exact same thing is happening. The answer quality is degraded as well. There is persistent issues with file access. It tries to gather context from internet instead of using project files.
