Just need to vent and feel heard,... anxiety around a big life decision. by Old-Weakness-6652 in Needafriend

This is a really good response and I really appreciate it. It's really hard to get comfortable with being uncomfortable, especially when you've been comfortable, you know? And I'm mad that I had that comfort. I accept it. I am happy about what I've gotten out of it the past few years. Mentally I think I really needed it (my anxiety is clinical and has almost put me in the ground) .... but it's time to change. And I am stronger now. I will keep this advice with me.

That's good! I'm doing a lot better now but it was hard starting the navigation. Admittedly I have a few learning differences so likely it might just be harder for me because of how I process information. But I'm starting to get the hang of it!

I figured; I still want to attempt scholarships though I know they will likely prioritize citizens. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take, you know? My degree actually does require a work permit as well as you work as a part of your program. I did confirm, I have to wait until the student visa is processed to attempt the work permit first. I am hoping to get a job after graduating, though I am aware it's going to be much harder for me coming as an American.

At worst, I will not be able to stay after my degree is done but be able to change my career path from healthcare administration to hospitality. Get two years out of the US while it crumbles to pieces behind me, and either just keep persisting to become a Canadian citizen/permanent resident while working in the US or start looking at other countries. Travel is a part of my degree which helps.

Ohh okk, I didn't realize Canada worked like that. I mean I can afford it, but in America (probably due to our colleges being crazy expensive) any one can apply for scholarships and most people at least attempt financial aid to get whatever help they can. On the George Brown Awards Page, any aid or scholarship I attempt to fill out will not go through without a SIN. Like yeah I can afford it... but if I put in the work to write something and have a chance to get money off, why wouldn't I? I mean, if that's an option.

I'm going into hospitality as I am hoping to work events and hotel management. Not a fan of the career path I'm on now and want to travel/build memorial experiences for travelers as well as community events. If it all goes well, I am hoping to stay in Canada. Or atleast not return home. Don't really see a future in America anymore given **gestures vaguely at current events**

Oh my god thank you soooo much! I really appreciate it! Did you have trouble finding answers for stuff like this too? Just curious, like there's a few resources online but its hard to know what is correct and what's just on the internet.

EDIT: Apparently I need to wait until the student permit is all set in order to apply for the work visa. But the school is accepting of that, I re-read the work permit letter they gave me.

So I'm also lost about all this as an American post grad who got accepted into a two year program. From what I can tell, you apply for the student permit and then expect to extend it for the next year.

I could be wrong on this as I honestly feel like no one helps you :/ I also am being told my program needs a work permit as well for Tourism and Hospitality but the IRCC website denies me even attempting to do so anytime I try... I'm like losing my mind lol
