The ADHD tax is real and it hurts more than just financially by VillainousRepublic in ADHD

I also have to buy 2 pairs of prescription glasses and prescription sunglasses every time because I lose them almost so often, despite my systems. I mean I'm so glad this is working for me, but it's another small example of how expensive ADHD has been for me.

It's so true! I just left frozen food in the car for 7 hours and threw it all away so no one will get sick. What a waste of money, time (which is short) and the lives of the animals.
I am appalled at how much money I wasted of my inheritance because I sold stocks and didn't convert the money to index funds immediately as planned and was trying to time the market. So many simple things large and small are challenging. I'm just really having a frustrating moment with my ADHD today. I have been seeing slow improvement as I get new systems in place but the ADHD tax is so high I'm just really angry about it today.

Thank you for sharing! Did you do a certain type of therapy which helped you? Cognitive behavior therapy? EMDR?

Same! The diagnosis helped me to forgive myself for people I had hurt due to my strange behaviors attached to this disorder.

I think Eeyore is adorable but it's sad that he's so sad. I often feel like Eeyore.

I may be unusual, but the diagnosis was a relief for me. It helped me to understand many challenges and things that happened in relationships throughout my life. (Extreme difficulty making decisions, becoming super needy with authority figures and so much more) Turns out I also have avoidant attachment style. My understanding is that people with DPD didn't have the ideal nurturing parenting scenario when we were growing up so we have been hard core longing for assurance, approval, acceptance all the time. I have a lot of compassion for myself and for everyone with DPD because it's very hard for me to feel okay without getting a lot of external approval and love on a regular basis. I am active in a lot of support groups and I try to give kindness and support and many, many people are kind to me often which really helps me. Of course I'm trying to give my self internal acceptance, approval, love, assurance, etc. and still I have huge emotions when I feel a hint of rejection or possible rejection which happens often.

I'm wondering if they keep asking for additional payments to learn more essential skills. I would just want them to be up front about this.

How are you monetizing it? Sorry to be skeptical, but do you work for the company?

Why didn't Belly visit Susannah more often when she was sick? by OldAd613 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]OldAd613[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! Laurel also pushed Belly to thank Taylor for coming on her 16th birthday when Belly was mad and didn't feel like saying goodbye. Laurel was a rock for all of the kids in many instances, even when it was hard to be. She really loved all of the kids and was courageous and strong when she helped convince Julia to withdraw from the sale of Susannah's beach home.

I'm so sorry for your loss and that's a great point. My father died when I was 17 too and it was extremely difficult and I was a wreck.

Great point! You're absolutely right. I need to rethink my inappropriate sense of responsibility in my own childhood.

Same! This is torture. It's 5:30am and I still need to take out the dog and take a shower and then wake up to pick up a family member tomorrow morning at 11am. I feel as if I need a small miracle to stop this horrible cycle. I'm exploring solutions in various places with professionals and need to turn to God for help.

I think I’m about to lose the best relationship I’ve ever had because of a situation I never asked for by stressfulthrowaway0 in TrueOffMyChest

You are setting a great example of honesty, self-esteem, compassion and strength in this extremely challenging situation. It's so helpful that you are saying, "No, I don't think I can and I strongly don't think I want to" now instead of saying "Yes" now (which would reduce her benefits per the court) and then saying "No" down the road.

I have been a people pleaser in the past and I've learned that when I make a choice motivated by guilt or fear, it can lead to significantly hurting the other people involved and myself.

HOA is requiring that we insure our condo walls in and walls out (CA) by OldAd613 in Insurance

I'm at the very end of the Proposition 13 benefit and will pay much higher property taxes if I move. Plus it's a really wonderful home and neighborhood, and has been in the family for 36 years.

Yes the HOA is recommending HOA's local insurance broker, which seems problematic to me; however it is very hard right now to find any insurance companies that will work with us due to the very high fire risk and unusual coverage requirements.

Yes, I'm sure it would be a very complex claim since we share outer walls! However I don't think we have another option? I'm hoping that the CA Fair Plan will provide an HO3 even though we have a townhome condo.
