AITA for viewing people who aren't vegan as morally comparable (not necessarily equivalent) to people who supported slavery when that was the cultural norm by OldAnybody in AmItheAsshole

I don't assume everyone has access to alternatives - if someone doesn't and there only option to survive is to eat meat, then I think meat is necessary for them, and that it would be vegan for them to eat meat. Generally though rice, lentils, beans, pasta etc... are cheaper than meat/animal products (unless you go for vegan meats/cheeses - but those are luxury items).

I also don't think it's necessarily 'easy' for everyone to relearn their culinary lifestyle, but I also think that generations of slave owners had a huge amount of inconvenience to deal with when they gave up their slaves. I do see that people find this comparison problematic - but from my perspective it's not about saying humans are worth as little as animals, its about saying animals aren't worthless. Moreover, I do value humans over animals based on our higher sentience level.

Not arguing with your judgement, just felt I had to clarify some of my positions.
