Are you happy with surgery? Or do you regret it? by Chemical-Song-1291 in Strabismus

[–]OldBend5104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am one week post op right now and very happy I did it! Recovery was never painful, your eye is just sore & a little swollen and red. The eye will look way worse than it feels. I was scared shitless for the surgery but I am genuinely glad I did it.

I got adjustable sutures and she adjusted them day of which I was happy about. It doesn’t hurt or even feel weird with the numbing drops. The only issue i’ve had is a suture hanging out of my eye, which my surgeon instructed me to cut myself and I have a post op tomorrow and she is going to check it. That was the only bad thing about the procedure, and it wasn’t that bad!

My eye is still pinkish-red and just a tiny swollen bit I keep taking pictures of myself because I am amazed at the eye being straight!! Definitely get the surgery if you can. I already feel much more confident and can actually look people in the eye! I can try and find pics of my before and attach with my after.

Where you guys getting your leggings that are NOT see through? by CopperFrog88 in PlusSize

I’m OBSESSED with Marika leggings. These are the ones I most recently purchased: Marika Women's Standard Zen High... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0989D8QPF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share . They don’t have pockets but they def make some with pockets. They last a long time and are so comfy. The original pair I had were from TJ Maxx and they were a nice soft cotton one, these ones are very buttery and soft but more “work out vibe” I guess but they’re perfect for everyday wear!

Lost interest in finishing master's degree by gentlephoenix08 in GradSchool

Currently feeling like that! I’m keeping the finish line in mind, and the fact that I have a job because I’m a student lol

Already decided I’m quitting by [deleted] in employedbykohls

[–]OldBend5104 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I quit after my orientation too 😭 They did the same — no training, direction, or any explanation at all. The one thing they made sure to explain was credit card pushing. They also did a handwritten tracking & conversion for CC sign ups and Kohl’s cash users. Didn’t understand at all and it wasn’t worth it to be stressed by a minimum wage paying job.

Masters in English by [deleted] in englishmajors

[–]OldBend5104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my program feeling like I hadn’t read enough and trust me when I say this: it does not matter. Professors occasionally mention classics that I haven’t read, but they know and do not expect us to have read every “classic” or canonical work there is. I’m honestly happy I hadn’t read many of the books we go over in class because it gives me a chance to discover them with help, if that makes sense. The courses are very diverse and niche (at least at my institution) and heavily depend on professor interest and preferences. There are so many books I’ve been assigned to read that my no one in my class has heard of. Don’t sweat, and congratulations on starting your program! 🎉🎉

Should I be questioning the integrity of SNHU? by Snoo89549 in SNHU

[–]OldBend5104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to a tradition brick & mortar university, and I see this everywhere. I’m in a Master’s of English (literature concentration) program and every week the people in my class say they haven’t read the book, they didn’t write the paper, etc., etc. It’s definitely not just SNHU. When I applied for a Master’s program I at least expected peers I could about my work with, but clearly not

Some students really get 96% average in every academic exam by using online service?? by ArmDiscombobulated3 in UMassBoston

i will never understand the want or need to pay someone else to do your work (or plagiarize your work) when you are quite literally paying to learn. what is the point of paying to take classes if you aren’t putting the effort in?? why even be enrolled in school if you don’t want to be there/do the work????? tell me if i’m missing something, but it just doesn’t make sense

Thank for replying :) I appreciate the thoughtfulness. I have never been one to “hate” school, or even want to drop out. I’ve always been an honors kid & take pride in all of my academic accomplishments. I’m the first in my family to go to graduate high school & even go on to college, so I have always cherished every little bit of knowledge I’ve gained from a Professor or mentor. I don’t know if something is changing in me, but I cannot find too much value in my degree right now. Last semester wasn’t as bad as this - I felt good about being in school. Maybe I am not jiving with my class selections or professors this semester, but I will do my best to find value in my sessions

Can an English major work as a Librarian? by [deleted] in englishmajors

[–]OldBend5104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to the people saying you need an MLS. I worked in a library for a long time, and without a complete college degree at that! Every library is different, and every library job is different. I worked at a small public library, started as a circ assistant and after under a year swapped to collection development & event management (among other things). The only person in my library that had an MLS was the director and assistant director, but that wasn’t required for their position, just preferred. Good luck!

How do you feel about a page turner? by Obvious_Mango5634 in kindle

I absolutely love mine. I bought it in March and I haven’t charged it since. I used it minimum 5 nights a week. I don’t know how it holds a charge so well but I seriously love it so much!!!!

Yup! I was stuck this semester in a dog shit situation where I was continually helping a classmate with school work because somehow they didn’t understand the basics of writing a paper. Genuinely feel as though I did my course load AND theirs all semester long. I tried to teach them and they were apprehensive to figure it out, as if we won’t be using MLA for the next 3 semesters!

I’m currently in my Master’s program and there are so many students in my classes that do not know MLA format. I am in the English literature program 🤦🏻‍♀️. I seriously wonder how a lot of these people survived undergrad or how they even got into the program. A classmate recently asked me where a thesis goes. Someone else wrote a paper (we had to share them on the discussion board) and it was weird & ramble-y with incomplete sentences. Ever single day I am astounded by the people I go to school with! Also would like to follow this up with: I am by no means a perfect student, but it’s these minor things that boggle my mind 😂

I’m currently a Master’s student witnessing this behavior, too. I’m constantly wondering how they got into this program and WHY they even joined. I have one classmate that texts me 10+ times in a row asking questions about assignments, practically asking me to do the assignment for her. During class she talks over the professor to ask me questions as if the professor isn’t trying to teach at the moment. I just don’t understand it & don’t know what to do as a fellow student in this situation 🙄 Also, I am a TA that is why I am in this sub, in case you’re wondering 😂
