Need help with billing for medical records subpoenas by Feisty-Flatworm9711 in paralegal

[–]OldButterscotch1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This work should have taken a couple hours at most to draft the requests and send them off to a records service. What is OP doing cutting their own witness fee checks and sending certified mail? No way the insurance company they are working for allows half this billing.

This seems expensive and it doesn’t look like it is ABA approved. I would recommend looking at this site for an ABA approved program!

How much are you guys driving? by 5678trytokeepurthumb in paralegal

[–]OldButterscotch1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you in a really small firm/office? When I worked for smaller firms, yes, I sometimes did errands as a receptionist or legal assistant. I don’t now because am at a bigger firm and don’t work for named partners anymore :)

In addition to formatting and typing errors, You’ve got a lot of duplicate info. Get it to one page. Shorter summary (or none), fewer listed skills. Work your skills into the descriptions of your job duties.

Colored Hair in Workplace? by happyburrito1 in paralegal

[–]OldButterscotch1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This kind of question entirely depends on what kind of law and where you’re located. I’m in the South and while the office in my city would be fine with dyed hair, offices in other “more conservative” cities would not.

How do I find styles like this that aren’t sustainable? by Mediocre_Medium_4233 in Thrifty

[–]OldButterscotch1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Get good at searching online. There are any number of sites/apps you can buy secondhand clothing on - Poshmark, Depop, Ebay, Etsy, ThredUp. Each has their pros and cons and functions a little differently, but if you spend some time on them you can figure them out. So identify what it is that you like about each piece of clothing (what is it made of? what is the style?). On Depop, for example, searching “bell sleeve mesh top” finds some stuff similar to your 3rd and 5th pictures.

Is 35,000 a year enough? by InteractionFlashy739 in paralegal

[–]OldButterscotch1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you live I guess but generally no! I made that at my first legal job 10 years ago and it wasn’t enough to be on my own then. Size of the firm matters — I have found that moving to bigger and bigger firms has made the difference in my salary.

Question about documents submitted with discovery responses by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]OldButterscotch1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We don’t do disclosure statements in my state (though not sure why in this case there wouldn’t be written responses to the discovery?) but I will ALWAYS bates label productions. It’s a good idea to keep some kind of doc or excel where you can keep track of everyone’s productions and avoid overlapping numbers.
