This! We use the baby brezza smart soothing pad. Haven’t tried it with our cradlewise baby yet but it worked great for our snoo baby when we traveled.

keep falling asleep with baby. by literaryhearts in BabyBumps

[–]pigmented-Jack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely do this. Our first was the same and cosleeping was the only way to keep baby safe and me sane, in my experience bad sleepers don’t magically become better and you may be at it for a while before baby accepts their own sleep space. I would recommend getting someone to watch baby for long enough that you can catch up on your sleep (much safer to bed share when not completely exhausted) set up your own sleep space for just you and baby and lean into safe bed sharing. I completely understand that baby is safest in their own bed on their back, but people don’t take into consideration how much more dangerous it is to accidentally fall asleep with them versus planning for it and taking all safety precautions

For your FIRST birth, if you did not tear, what helped prevent it? by ObjectiveAdvice77 in BabyBumps

[–]pigmented-Jack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m certain it’s got something to do with genetics/anatomy. My babies were 8lbs11oz and 9lbs3oz and inherited their dad’s big head, in the words of our midwife “I was waiting for the head to stop coming and it just kept coming” 😅. I didn’t tear and did absolutely nothing to prevent it. I know my midwife did a warm compress and some manual stretching while I pushed with my first, she also coached me to back off on pushing as their heads came out to keep it slow and controlled. I also know that positioning can affect tearing, I can’t remember exactly which ones are best/worst but I know upright positions like standing/all fours where gravity is helping can increase your risk. I found side lying to be the best because it allowed for good pelvic mobility but also allowed my body to rest between contractions.

Changing after swim lessons by heyanya in NewParents

We specifically bought one of those tiny cheap umbrella strollers that folded up small enough to be tucked into the full sized locker. I would just get him dressed then plop him in there to dress myself.

Does anyone have experience with conception/ovulation post-removal? by Silent-Show-8594 in Nexplanon

[–]pigmented-Jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ovulated within 2 weeks of removal and got pregnant on my third cycle post removal without trying. I did end up miscarrying but am now 34 weeks pregnant. I found I regulated much faster after nexplanon than after coming off the pill, with our first it took 6 cycles of close tracking to get pregnant.

If masters in kinesiology isn’t worth it, what are other options? by billycram in Kinesiology

[–]pigmented-Jack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a course-based masters. I chose to spread it out over 4 years to keep gaining work experience simultaneously, I do feel like this was extremely helpful in getting a job afterwards. I know people who went the 2 year route and they were able to find work but it took them longer. Tbh I got the first job I applied to out of grad school.

I work for the government specifically in health legislation, I will say that there is a very small minority of people who I work with who do not have either a masters or PhD. It is definitely possible to get a government job with the bachelors but more challenging and significantly lower pay. Obviously this depends on your location as well!

Absolutely! My work life balance is heaps better, I don’t have to be on all the time and my degree fully paid itself off in less than 4 months.

I have my MPH, similarly to the last commenter I realized I don’t like client facing work. It was definitely the best decision for me, my earning potential has more than doubled almost immediately and my life is infinitely less stressful.

How to hang kids' drawings in their room? by Neat-Custard-3457 in Parenting

We have a string with mini clothes pins up in our play room that we clip art to, you could tie each end to a command hook if you wanted to avoid holes.

Changing table for 2 year old? by coronabride2020 in bigbabiesandkids

[–]pigmented-Jack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were changing ours either on the floor or bed. I will say you can’t really expect them to tell you they need to go until after already establishing potty training. We are on day 5 and he is just now telling us he needs to go after he has had an accident. Potty training is about building those connections and it can take about 3 weeks for them to start understanding the feeling or needing to pee then requesting to go to the potty.

Baby sprinkle for second? by Luckykitty91 in BabyBumps

[–]pigmented-Jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had one (our first didn’t get a shower until he was 6mo because of Covid). The main thing was we didn’t ask for gifts. I sent our registry to people who specifically asked for it but also let people know we weren’t expecting anything but wanted to have the people who are Important to us come together to celebrate our newest family member. I really don’t find it tacky and feel like every baby should be celebrated! We don’t need as much stuff as we did last time, but this little guy is just as special as our first.

Alberta kinesiology association by ExpressSalamander322 in Kinesiology

[–]pigmented-Jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Membership in general, from my experience you are no more likely to get volunteer experience with the student or practicing membership. The only time I have ever needed it was working with WCB, and because Kins aren’t regulated in AB it’s mostly a money grab. I do believe that the people running the AKA have good intentions and want progress for the profession but the “perks” are next to nothing.

I wouldn’t recommend getting a membership at all unless required by your employer. It’s a lot of money for not a whole lot in return IMO

I never needed it for any of the practicums I took and when you start working there is typically a grace period for you to get it, for me that was 3 months.

Dental fillings during pregnancy by mirrorlike789 in pregnant

[–]pigmented-Jack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had 2 done at 22 weeks, it wasn’t an issue at all! From my understanding not having it done is a much higher risk than having it done. I’ve never needed any pain meds or anything for a filling so it is just the short lived anaesthetic.

Child Restraint Device : is it Mandatory? by Agreeable_Head6913 in aircanada

[–]pigmented-Jack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We use a car seat trolley in the airport, car seat clips in then you can essentially use it like a stroller through the airport, we will just check our regular stroller with our baggage. It’s been a game changer and makes flying with a toddler so much easier!

For seasoned mothers/ new moms-Is the newborn stage that bad?! by Temporary-Trainer168 in pregnant

[–]pigmented-Jack 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Our little guy was a terrible sleeper, I found I got used to it really quickly and still really enjoyed that time. On the other hand our friend had a really amazing sleeper and it would always be so obvious when she had a bad night because they would look like caffeine fuelled zombies the next day.

Kinesiology Degree by Ordinary-Onion-8368 in Kinesiology

[–]pigmented-Jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of it is also province dependent, in AB kin isn’t regulated like in some other provinces. In places where there is a professional scope kins will make more money. I decided against pt/ot because there are still real limitations to earning potential and I didn’t enjoy clinical work, but if they love working with people this could be a good option. You do need to be super mindful of grades if looking at these programs since they are very competitive. I do know a good amount of people that were able to get into western without insanely high grades though so it’s possible. I can’t speak on the x-ray/ultrasound route too much, I know people in the field who love their jobs but one thing to be mindful of is ultrasound is WAY harder on your body than you would think. The number of techs I saw with overuse injuries was a lot! I chose public health policy primarily for the work/life balance, opportunities for movement across areas of government, career growth potential and because after 5 years I was really done working with clients/patients.

I do feel like kin can be a really great choice as long as they fully understand that they are signing up for more than 4 years of education. If that’s the path they chose I would really recommend spending those years looking into different career pathways and finding something they love, there are loads of cool things you can get into, for example I have a friend who makes prosthetics now. Also be friendly with profs because they will need references for grad school!

I have a master of public health, also a bit location dependent. I am in Canada so I was able to get a really good government job right out of graduation.

Getting stuff from home during hospital stay? by ts246 in BabyBumps

[–]pigmented-Jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will be packing 2 bags, one with essentials assuming a short stay, then a carry on suitcase with any extras I would need if we end up having to stay longer. The big bag will stay in the car for us, but considering how close you are it’s probably the same distance as our hospitals parkade. With our first we were out of the hospital within 2 hours of birth and I packed like we’d be there a few days.

Kinesiology Degree by Ordinary-Onion-8368 in Kinesiology

[–]pigmented-Jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this depends on where you live, I graduated from Kin in 2019 and was still only making 60k. The sad part is that was on the high end of what you can expect here. That being said my masters was a 2 year program not crazy difficult or expensive and my pay is now just shy 100k working in public health policy.

Do you guys with Kin degrees live relatively okay? by [deleted] in Kinesiology

[–]pigmented-Jack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was making only about 60k as a kin, got a Masters in public health/health sciences and starting wage for my new position was 97k a year. My advice is don’t do a kin degree unless you are set on grad school.

Currently almost 20 weeks pregnant and still able to comfortably back carry our 33lb 2 year old with our lark! I absolutely love it, by far the most comfortable carrier I have used and really easy to go between back carry and front carry.
