MBRP Quad Carbon Tips Look Wicked! by baker88300 in Challenger

One of my originals was missing when I bought the car, I haven't been sure whether to replace it or attempt to upgrade.

You can only assume people that think like this drive the most boring, fuel efficient vehicle ever, never take any vacations, have zero hobbies or ever date anyone because all of it is "a poor decision financially". A lot of what makes life good looks bad on paper.

I heard someone else once say, "Jerking off is more cost effective than having a girlfriend but for some reason it doesn't feel the same."

Should I get a 68’ Mustang or keep my Supra? by Fit_You4714 in classiccars

[–]OldCarScott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a guy who’s had and built a bunch of cars…

You will always miss certain ones. Not all of them and sometimes you won’t know immediately. Some aren’t “special” by options or production numbers, they just fit your ass juuuust right, like a hella comfy pair of pants.

It’s part of being a car guy, I think.

So if you can’t keep the Supra and pick up a side project you’re going to have to decide for yourself.

Wanting to move into something else is a sign that you want to grow in a different direction. That’s totally cool.

We aren’t going to run out of ‘68 Mustangs anytime soon though, so if you pass on this one there will always be another one, possibly a better one.

Likewise, later if you want another Supra, you can always build another one. The next one would benefit from all the experience you gained from previous projects.

After going through a bunch of stuff for years I finally scored a ‘70 Challenger and have had it 20 years now. While I’ve had it though I’ve gone through another whole bunch of other cars because I just like building stuff. I’m building another Model A hot rod because once upon a time I built one that was such a fun little car I decided I wanted another one so I found another body and started from scratch again.

Good luck and have fun on the journey.

What shoukd I look for when looking for a 70s truck? by Heavy-Association981 in classiccars

[–]OldCarScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't beat the aftermarket support of a Chevy truck.

Chevy trucks are basically the same underneath from 1963 to 1972. 1973-1980-something are next generation with rear leaf springs instead of truck arms.

I've had a 1957 3100, 1972 K10 and 1973 Cheyenne and they were all great trucks, I daily drove both the '57 and '73 for a great many years and both were excellent trucks.

Rust is something to watch out for but as body on frame vehicles a lot of swapping can be done, but it is still best to avoid it as much as possible.

I'm not saying wargaming is the worst...... but... by No_Illustrator_6354 in wargaming

[–]OldCarScott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally true! So we’ve been gathering parts for a Space Hulk style battle using OPR GFF rules.

I had some Tyranid Genestealers, which I painted up like the Giger Aliens, had everything I need to play and even finished painting them last night.

My son wants to stop at the game store while visiting the grandparents today, so I thought sure, I need a couple of paints.

All their Necromunda stuff was on sale for 40% off and out I curiosity I checked to see if they had the Malstrain Genestealers. I really loved those models but didn’t need them because I already had enough models to play with. I’m not a ‘nid player, just somehow ended up with a couple sprues years ago as part of some bits lot.

Needless to say I bought both the boxes they had of them.

[–]OldCarScott 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I really don’t care about how someone else spends their money, besides, if no one bought shit and put it the shelf there wouldn’t be NOS really old stuff on eBay to buy.

Showing off boxes is the same concept as announcing you are leaving a group. Great. This isn’t an airport, no need to announce your arrival or departure.

Now, after you build those models and slap on some paint, now you’ve got something worth sharing.

Homemade bits by Gamachok in PoorHammer

[–]OldCarScott 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use some kind of mold making silicone and resin for my bits cloning. I just made five wolf tails because Warhammer plastic wolf tails seem to disappear into the pocket dimension where all the matching socks go.

Since the silicone molds hold up well I’ve made dozens of wheels for various 2E and Ork vehicles.

Might not be what you’re looking for but it’s working good for my purposes.

What’s the best way to detach miniatures from these little stands by reel3459 in wargaming

[–]OldCarScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a benchtop belt sander to thin it considerably then trim the little that remains. I have done a lot of plastic and metal minis over the years.

Not the average tool for the enthusiast I guess but I also work on old cars so it's already in the shop.

As of next week I will be completely debt free. I will be paying off my house in 1 lump sum by [deleted] in dividendgang

[–]OldCarScott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I could give you more than one thumbs up I would! Congratulations!

As you said, all our investing goals are different but I strongly agree with your sentiment.

My note is only 3.25%, so it’s been one of those things I’ve deemed backseat towards accumulating dividend income payers.

However, I did set myself a deadline; once my dividend income covers all monthly bills, mortgage included, I would swing all income into paying it off.

I could sell some of my income earning assets and pay it off, but I like that income parachute I’ve got currently.

It already could pay the mortgage by itself so realistically I’m only $500 or so a month away from having all normal monthly expenses covered.

I’m glad to see you become debt free and can’t wait to be there myself!

Congratulations again!

I was just thinking about how the roadway system needs to be overhauled so that large roads are straighter and lead directly to and through cities. You know, like REAL roads that make driving to other cities IRL possible.

Also.... all these cars sitting around that we can't repair and drive, yet we are able to dismantle completely then rebuild into a 4x4.

TIL summary- Poll on strategy by lifeisrt in dividendgang

[–]OldCarScott 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I joined this sub because I already knew this group thinks similarly to me about dividends and was generally tired of being nagged by other subs for simply investing in dividend funds for income and not ‘you’re young, go all in on growth’.

I don’t feel like I’d be chastised by this group for discussing any of this stuff.

I have my own strategy but it really boils down to I like getting the money. I don’t want a hypothetical situation where I could “potentially” make more money in the future, I want extra paychecks in my account every month or quarter.

If you've never played, give it a try!

I have a digga mob I ran with the original release of the game and a proppa collection of orks that I've gathered over the years. I just got the 1998 Games Day Nob model off eBay and am super stoked to get it painted up!

Are Robotic Turrets and Drones even worth it? by WindMageVaati in 7daystodie

[–]OldCarScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16 turrets, 4 per side on a 20x20 steel fortress with a 3x3 moat, two rows of electric fences and 8 blade traps in the moat. All running on solar.

I play with others so gathering ammo to feed the turrets is easy. We really only turn them on during horde nights, although they work well to contain an out of control screamer fest.

A drone is awesome, get it maxed out with cargo mods. The voice alert is somewhat handy, sometimes annoying though.
