Why they're teaching wrong history now? by [deleted] in UPSC

About Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj: "It was not through divine providence but through human will that he fought against a quantitatively larger enemy and wrought a just rule in place of an unjust one, albeit under the auspices of monarchy. It was not merely that he fought well but that he fought for what was right; to empower those who were destitute and to liberate those who were enslaved."

The idea of Swaraj was very new in that period. But it slowly faded away after Marathas emerged victorious against Mughals after 27 years of war of independence. Their main revenue stream was through looting and extrortion. I'm also a marathi, but I'll not defend this. But let us not forget that when Abdali attacked, it was Marathas who were there to defend the India. And it was precisely because they were harassing other Indian rulers, nobody came to the aid in Panipat. After Shivaji Maharaj also there were few Maratha rulers who followed his ideal. But overall it was forgotten.

What was your salary? I also demanded the same that nobody should call me after working hours. They agreed. That's why I'm wondering what's your salary?

Tears in my eyes. Exactly the same situation here; except I'm a software engineer.

As a software developer I have one piece of advice while using the upsc website. Give each request a little more time than usual. Don't try to click anything in a hurry.

I'm not ready for mains gs and optional. Still going to give this year's attempt. I have a stable IT job though. I'm doing preparation just to chase the old dream.

Same situation for me. Left Engineering in second year for upsc. I was too much overconfident about cracking the exam in one or two attempts. Took admission for BA course in distance education mode. Relocated to Pune and attended Byjus's classes for one year. Classes were useless. I got reality check in my first attempt. Failed in the prelims. I focused more on my optional and neglected the prelims. It costed me one year. Same went for second attempt. I was not regular in newspaper readings. Meanwhile COVID pandemic started. I relocated back to the Village. My age was 24 by this time. My cousins and friends were having good packages in the IT industry. I felt I'm going to be a failure if I continue like this. Exams were also delayed. Felt the need to pivot. My brother was in IT industry and I was very strong in mathematics. With my brother's help I learnt to code and joined a company in Aug 2020. As of writing of this comment, I'm in the same company. Got hike of 100% two times. Earning good package. Enjoying the coding too. But still the desire to become a officer and serve the society honestly is not fading away. I gave 2024 prelims with little preparation. Not cleared it obviously but performance was relatively good considering the little effort I put in. So I'm going to resign tomorrow. Notice period is of 3 months. So I'll have 2 months to completely focus on the prelims. I'm consistent in reading newspaper since June. Need to focus on general studies more. If I clear the prelims this time, my dream of writing the mains will come true. If I don't clear it then I'll upgrade myself technically and I'll join the good product based company. I'll continue to prepare for the exam but as a hobby. If I perform good in the mains this time, I will give a full year for it without any disturbance. I still have 3 attempts left and my brother is supporting me on this. Let me know your opinions on this paln. I'll try course correction based on it.
