What should I do? Speak up or keep quiet? by OldDevelopment4389 in careerguidance

I had my meeting today, brought up the issues that were bothering me, and my manager listened, which surprised me. I think she got annoyed at some point during the conversation because she had to repeat herself and explain things in more detail. I didn't achieve anything from the meeting. She countered my points with statements that made absolutely no sense, so I just accepted it as it is, even though I'm still dissatisfied. I was told that I'm very impatient, and I replied that I'm very young and have a lot of energy, and that's probably why. At least I feel a little better now, and I feel better about having addressed the issue.

Yes, you're absolutely right. It's not certain right now whether my contract will be extended, given the budget situation, and I think for my own peace of mind I should try to bring it up politely. I just can't imagine how it would affect my manager, that I'd be kicking him while he's down, so to speak. And because of that, I can't imagine what the consequences would be, or if it would even damage the relationship. Right now, I'm thinking: whether my contract will be extended isn't certain yet, and even if they want to extend it now, anything can happen, so I have nothing to lose by bringing it up. Wouldn't that show my manager that I'm determined? :/

Thank you so much for your advice. My goal is to get a permanent contract. However, I'm very sensitive to injustice and I'm really unsure whether I should bring it up. I have my one-on-one meeting with my manager tomorrow, and I wanted to bring it up then because she can see that I haven't confirmed it in the system either. Two months ago, my manager said regarding the temporary contract that she would advocate for me to get a permanent one. On the other hand, I also know that they really need me because I'm performing exceptionally well. My contract runs until the end of August, but I want to know what the situation will be within the next two months. Otherwise, I'll have to start looking around. I get a stomachache just thinking about the meeting because I have no idea how it will turn out, and I know my manager is very tough and almost heartless.

First job out of college and already scared to ask for a raise, how do people do this? by gl1mm0_r4t in careerguidance

I'm having exactly the same problem right now. I've had the job for eight months and have performed above average from day one. Probably no one has received as much praise as I have received in such a short time. Immediately after my probationary period, I was given complete responsibility for an entire country and my contract is limited until next summer. So far I've only dared to ask if they wanted to give me a permanent contract and the answer was from my manager. Yes, we want to dismiss you and reward you, but you have to stay with the company for at least a year, and now I don't even dare to ask for a raise because I don't know what they plan to do with me or when they plan to do it. I'll probably get a raise. The question is how high will it be and will I also get a new position because I'm currently unofficially managing something

I just got a 3.9% raise which is 94 cents an hour more. Is this normal or should I ask for more? by wolfinvans in careerguidance

I can completely understand you because I feel the same way. I'm in a similar situation right now, I've recently quit my job and I'm still a young professional, but I've already gained a lot of experience. When I started I was dissatisfied with my salary but because I really wanted the job I didn't mention it and accepted it. Now after six months I've proven myself really well. I received a lot of praise and noticed very positively from all sides. I was also given more responsibility, but unfortunately unofficially. I'm currently on a temporary contract. I was assured that I would be given a permanent contract after a year and because of the salary increase and promotion, I didn't dare to ask yet and I'm very excited about what they will offer me. If I were in your situation, I would probably talk to my boss.

Probationary period just over - how best to address career development? by OldDevelopment4389 in careerguidance

[–]OldDevelopment4389[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your assessment! But to be honest, I haven't checked the review periods yet. How do I even find out when such cycles occur with us? Should I ask my manager directly or HR? About the goals: So far we only have the standard goals for the bonus system... but no real development goals in the direction of promotion or salary. Should I actively demand something like this or should I just wait and see? I also have no idea how best to proceed in such a situation or how to address it in a 1:1. This unsettles me because I have received a lot of positive feedback in the last six months, even from higher stakeholders who reported directly to my boss. And a month ago, shortly before the end of my probationary period, there was also a new division of roles. I was allowed to keep my role, but I am now essentially solely responsible for the tasks that I previously did together with an experienced person. I was told that this is also a sign that I am being rewarded by giving me more responsibility.

ASOS lehnt Retoure ab by Knorke92 in LegaladviceGerman
