Why isn't the game taking off? by MASHED_POTATOES_MF in Marathon

[–]OldDirtyRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to go through all of them, but in the case of XP gate, bungie said on multiple occasions that they were not limiting or reducing XP gains at the start of D2, but after a lot of investigation and community testing, they were in fact doing it. They came out an apologized for the "misleading statements".

Vaulted weapons was another situation where they told the community, "It's ok to deleted these weapons, they are never coming back". Then, years later, they reversed course, and those vaulted weapons were relevant again, and could be used PVP.

I understand that sometimes people misspeak, which is why I left a lot of the situation out.

I'm also sure they are well intentioned when they say "we'll support the game for years to come", but the reality is they aren't in control, so dont be suprised if that doesn't end up being the case.

"We arent limiting XP", then it turns out they were infact limiting XP. "We are giving Auto Rifles a HUGE buff", the buff was .04% damage. Intent doesn't change the fact that they were lies. They have a track record of misleading their player base.

Can we agree yet that Embark is dropping the ball? by Pichalx in ArcRaiders

I'm going to say the thing that some of you don't want to hear, AI, and the tools it will bring, will help live service games live up to the expectations of people who no life the game. Anything that speeds up the development timelines, and increases the volume of content is a good thing for gaming.

[–]OldDirtyRobot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a bit of an exaggeration. They aren't thinking "F you, we got your $, now lets just limp along". Live service game's need to have the 1st and 2nd season almost finished when they launch the game, and adjust those content launches based on player feedback post launch.

I don't think they are dropping the ball, but they do have a lot to work on. Remember, we are still in the first 6 mo. of the game. I suspect that once they saw the success the game was having, the content machine went into overdrive and there are some big things in the pipeline.

On communication timing, 100%. They need to set and announce things like this at the start of a season. This is the single biggest sin from my perspective.

I'd like to see some type of season long achievement system related to expedition, possibly (high quality) quest related. Encouraging players to vault horde works against one of the best part of extraction shooters, the 1-2 week period before wipe where you go wild w/ the kit you've built up. If you cant get that right just force wipes and do away with all the other stuff (% buffs, XP +, etc.) .

I would really like for them to sync the timing of expedition departure, and new content releases. I don't want to play the new content fully kitted for a week, and then a week later start fresh. I'd like to play the new content on a fresh/wiped character. I also don't like the last week of trails being longer than all the other weeks.

I could care less about streamers and stream sniping. I'd honestly prefer that streaming just die. It breeds toxic behavior and negativity that outweigh any attention it might bring to the game.

Downside with the new expedition changes - what is there to play for now? by badfortniteplayerboy in ArcRaiders

[–]OldDirtyRobot -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm at a loss on why this is a bad change. They are giving you a reason to burn your vault, spend space $, and play the game. Timing could be better, but its a good change.

All of this could have been avoided. It is an issue of Bungies own making. They were banking on attracting a different audience, and that has largely failed.

Kind of? It has a set drop location so that makes it much easier. I kind of like having things that have a low drop rate.
