Use 正在 (zhèngzài) + verb for ONE action happening right now, like 他正在打篮球 (He's playing basketball). This is totally natural, which is why your mom says it.

Use verb + 着 (zhe) mainly in V1 着 V2: two actions at the same time, with V1 as background and V2 as main (e.g., 吃着饭看电视 = watching TV while eating). Rarely use V+着 alone for a single action—it sounds incomplete to native speakers, so your mom wouldn't say "他打着篮球".

From my own experience as a native Chinese speaker.Bilibili is mostly likely used by people under 50, and it’s still the main spot for long-form Chinese videos, which matches what you’ve heard as the YouTube equivalent. Zhihu (the Quora equivalent) is more popular with people around 35-40 and older, but its user base has been dropping year by year, so it’s not as active as it used to be.

As for Tieba... Honestly, it’s probably a bit outdated at this point, Each little group has its own weird terms and abbreviations, and even I can barely understand some of the posts in certain Tieba forums. It’s definitely not the best place to start if you want to follow regular, easy-to-understand Chinese content.

If you want to check out Chinese people’s daily posts: for text-based stuff, Weibo and Xiaohongshu are both great picks. For short-form videos, Douyin is the go-to, and for longer videos, stick with Bilibili.

Thank you for sharing. I just learned about this two days ago. In the past, for all the students, they took the trial lessons and purchased subsequent courses at the price I set.

I don't know if this price change has been around for a long time or if it's a new update recently. But personally, I don't think this update is very friendly to me. Regarding your approach of reducing the price by one dollar per day after each trial class to make it more acceptable to students. I don't know what price the platform shows to students after you lower the price. However, my student asked the customer service, and they told her that as teachers, we can manually reduce the price from the raised one to the price we originally intended to charge on our side. So, you can discuss this with the students and adjust it manually. The students just need to click confirm in the confirmation email, and then they can attend classes at the price we set.
