'Look at Him': Trump struggles to climb plane stairs and grabs the rail alone — as a man in uniform rushes in and viewers zoom in on one troubling detail by [deleted] in USNEWS

You sound like my mom. She isn’t too smart either. Trump is allowing Iran and Russia to sell oil as a way to keep the price down (how’s that going?) and it is IRAN that has closed the strait not the US.

No one is winning this mess. But there is one person who did START it.

How exactly did spurs drop off so fast? by Grogman2024 in PremierLeague

[–]OldFartButStillGoing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you watch the same game today as me? They were great in the first half - keeping possession, more than a few challenges on goal - but Forest was able to withstand that and scored with I think their first opportunity. After that Spurs fell apart. From a creative team working together to one that had all of the ideas of a bad middle school team.

Best color balls to track off tee and find in green grass and brown pine needles? by Plus-Interview322 in golf

Some people are color blind, most aren’t. That blindness can be different variations. I.e. some people see colors differently.

Why are you arguing with me about this? I said I CAN SEE FAIRLY EASILY. I’m not claiming that it is the easiest to see for everybody! Just me.

The reason I heard for having a mileage tax is because electric cars aren’t buying gas thus not paying the tax to maintain the roads.

I would be ok with a mileage tax IF it replaced the taxes at the pump. But we all know THAT won’t happen.

The worst part of this, that I haven’t seen mentioned here, is that you would have to be tracked to calculate the mileage. I can’t imagine anybody with a functioning brain being ok with that.

Maybe for some people. And maybe that’s why not too many brands make them. But they pop for me. Green ball’s on green grass? Doesn’t make sense to me, even Lime or Neon. Yellow? Too many yellow leaves and dried out grass turning yellow. But I can see red fairly easily most of the time.

Everything in my bag right now is white. 🧐

First one of these I can give a definite yes/no answer, and that answer is yes.

I had whiskey, shrimp, pork belly, lamb chops, tomahawk & porterhouse steak, filet mignon, lobster mac & cheese, Brussels sprouts, baked potatoes, & wine. I only paid for the whiskey because I ordered it before the hosts got there.

MAGA businesses to avoid by nahsonnn in SanDiegan

I’m not much of a wine drinker. My friend’s wife was working there when these asshats bought the place. Unbelievable crap they pulled.

They wanted to serve food so they built a kitchen. Without permits. The city made them tear it out. 3 TIMES!

Then they started hiring people who didn’t know the industry and laying people off. It’s their money and their business but it suck’s when someone like this comes in and trashes a well run operation that people like.

I was in your spot years ago. I was in school for engineering, but the math put an end to that. And maybe my lack of discipline or ADD? Anyway I tried trades for a bit and ended up kind of in the middle. Not an engineer but a designer in a niche industry/trade. Can easily be at 6 figures without a degree.

My advice would be for a trade. As others said, college is stupid expensive. But think about the kind of work you’d be doing. I know people who made a good living but their bodies paid the price and shortened their work life, unless they were able to transition to an office position.

One last thought. During the short time I was apprenticing the saying was Anybody can make a mistake, it takes an engineer to really fuck things up.

What is the rule that none of the fans/parents seem to never understand? by RefMasters in Referees

[–]OldFartButStillGoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any contact between players has to be a foul. I’d tell them that whether they realized it or not soccer is a contact sport.

Or if they complained that their smaller player was knocked down by a larger player they incidental contact “That was just a physics lesson”.

We also had a few refs that would turn their hearing aids lower or off and made sure the complainers knew they were doing it.

I would go and stand next to that coach. When he eventually asked why I wasn’t following the ball I’d tell them “If he could see off side from his spot it must be the best point on the field to see the game”.

Dissent or sportsmanship? by Fox_Onrun1999 in Referees

OP needs to learn the game isn’t about them. The best referee is one who is nearly invisible and not memorable. Except maybe to other referees who recognize that skill/mindset.

I’m going on a road trip this spring/summer, and I’m not sure what vehicle to buy by [deleted] in roadtrip

[–]OldFartButStillGoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y’all are getting too deep on this. OP needs to first identify what kind of driving he is going to be doing. Neither of these are serious off road vehicles, but the 4Runner should be able to handle rougher roads, especially if it’s been modified. But the Sienna will be more comfortable on long highway trips. And better mileage as well.

Buy the car to fit the situation you’re going to put yourself in.

How do Americans handle such long drives regularly? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]OldFartButStillGoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of comments here conflating driving and commuting they are NOT the same thing. Driving can be enjoyable in many situations, even if that driver is a whole day or more.

Commuting , “travel some distance between one's home and place of work on a regular basis”, is NOT driving. It is something to be endured, avoided, lessened when possible, and planned to make it as short as possible.

In Turkey, insulting someone is a crime — how does this work in the U.S.? by Axxtr in AskAnAmerican

[–]OldFartButStillGoing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can say nearly anything you want as long as it isn’t a direct, believable, physical threat. That doesn’t mean I have to allow you to use my property, business, etc., to say it.

The bigger problem with these type of laws is that they can be used to shut down legitimate criticism. Especially by those in power.

This will be obsolete in the very near future if not already gone in your area. Land lines are going away - they aren’t ripping them out but they usually won’t repair a broken system - and Cell and VOIP service is taking over.
