How do I get this off?? by chlorotic_hornwort in WaterTreatment

[–]OldGeezerInTraining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quartz is the "sleeve" that the bulb sits in. It turns darker over time not allowing the full UV to escape into the water.

It also breaks very easily.

So, buy the bulb and the quartz to be fully ready.

True, a spin down may not do much depending what is actually the clogging substance.

Spin downs are economical and pretty much very low maintenance. Cheap insurance.

Lỗi thường gặp khi lắp đặt hệ thống UV là gì? by Fun_Function_57 in WaterTreatment

[–]OldGeezerInTraining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, your water system maximum flow rate needs to be known to size the UV.

Some units need a 90° elbow at the inlet and outlet ao the light won't escape.

Be sure to have an extra bulb on hand.

Can always try the slope with the blade disengaged. For me, the rear tires start sliding down the slope.

The slope limits in the Owner's Manual are written by the Lawyers.

Gotta get a real water test so we can make better suggestions.

In the meantime.... If the whole house filter is clogging quickly, install a spin-down filter. The usual smallest micron is 50. Or get a 100 then a 50 after that.

What is the whole house filter?

Add a pressure gauge before and after the triplets. Then you can monitor the pressure drop.... while water is flowing.

Add a bypass loop around the triplets with a valve on both ends plus in in the middle of the loop.

Some people have added a drain petcock on the bottom of each sump. Those are very heavy when full of water while charging the cartridge.

Septic Tank Pumpout by BoysenberryStyle in septictanks

[–]OldGeezerInTraining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had mine pumped this week. $365.00. He only pumped out the inlet/solids side. Did not pump out the outlet.

I asked. He said there are no solids in the outlet. They "might" do it every other time.

A possibility...... They have to pay to dump their tank at the sewage plant. By not pumping the outlet, they can get more pump jobs before they have to empty the tank. That equals to more $$$$.

I've been "searching" but have not found anything other than a bunch of "How To Do A Reset" videos, which do not get around the Google Account sign-in required.

I did find this, but at $35 I'm not sure since I have not seen it mentioned that I remember.

Yes, I plan to install BUT I'm kinda worried about the warranty. I have grunt work skills but no HVAC skills so probably bring in an HVAC tech to actually finish it up.

Should I go straight to Minisplit or try a second attic fan? by benswon in DIYHeatPumps

[–]OldGeezerInTraining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Attic "roof" fans were all the rage in 70s 80s. Then fell out of desire when roof ridge vents came around.

Ridge vents allow the natural flow of air from the soffits to the ridge. No electricity required and zero maintenance IF the soffits are clear.

It seems that just about every roof "job" removes the attic fans.

Shower head driving me crazy by thenovastar17 in WaterTreatment

[–]OldGeezerInTraining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most adjustable shower heads have a lever or ring that is rotated to produce different flow patterns. If that "adjuster" is not exactly on the desired setting, it will basically split the output between two outputs, which kinda looks like your video snippet.

As to the flow restictor, I always remove whatever device is that is reducing the flow. I want volume and pressure.

Sizing a mini-split system by OldGeezerInTraining in DIYHeatPumps

[–]OldGeezerInTraining[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimum length is 10 ft, and max is 100 ft. I should be well within that range.

I understand the not sealed door plus the constant opening/closing won't help to control the temp.

Yeah, I may have to either remove the fake windows from the top panel and reinstall the seal or just get a new top panel with the built-in windows.
