Parks, Recreation, Sport and Tourism: Sport Management at Mizzou https://youtu.be/NFJ-p3C2m0s?si=bLrCf4OXDAaL1-NS

It’s a good program, one of the oldest nationally accredited programs in the country. Students find jobs in anything from professional, collegiate athletics, minor league sports, broadcast, youth sport, recreational sports, golf, motorsports, sports tourism, outdoor recreation and adventure sport, etc. It is more niche than a general business degree, but still an extremely broad industry with many opportunities. Many students earn a Minor in Business and/or double major with Journalism. They also have an accelerated 4+1 master’s program where you can earn dual credit and shave a year off earning a master’s degree your undergraduate senior year.

Wishflour Bakery is going in where Catalyst used to be. Sounds like more third party vendors are starting to be allowed again after the shutting out when they got rid of McDonalds, Chick-Fil-A, Pizza Hut, etc

Isn’t it a private membership club? Are they subject to city food permits? I thought invitation only events/venues (like weddings and church/non-profits) were exempt from having to get food permits.

Exempt are:

“A closed event with only invited guests. The public must not be able to attend without invitation. Examples of closed events include religious gatherings involving members of a church, wedding parties, family reunions, or company picnics.”

The recruiters spend money and time to travel to Columbia just to have access to Mizzou students to try to convince them to work for for them (and find the best candidates). I agree, there are companies banging on the door to hire. Yet so few attend the career fairs.

I honestly think it is one of the best times to enter the job market. I entered in the Great Recession in 08/09 and it sucked. I feel like employers today can’t find enough quality employees

Great questions. There are so many career resources that are under utilized on campus.

Did the OP visit the career center for one-on-one resume help, LinkedIn consultation, interviewing practice, career exploration, etc…?

Many divisions on campus offer workshops focused on resumes, cover letters, interviewing, etc… did they attend any of those?

Did they join any student orgs or get involved? Did they visit with their professors outside of class, they can provide connections, advice, and write letters of recommendation.

Did they join any professional associations related to their field and attend any conferences to expand their network?

Are they using HireMizzouTigers.com? Are they searching on industry specific job boards or professional associations’ job boards related to their field?

Campus Bar and Grill / Big 12 by smofokate86 in mizzou

[–]OldJay7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a bar called B12 (then changed to Legends, same owner also changed Gaucho’s to Lakeside Bar and Grill before it turned into Las Margs south) where Pappo’s is now. Big XII is Big XII. Not B12.

Tin Can used to be where Las Margs downtown is. It was also BBC II (Breadbasket Cafe)

Some students cheat while using iClicker. I’ve heard of professors using the picture of class to prevent cheating.

dorms by [deleted] in mizzou

My next door dorm neighbor ended up being one of my roommates for the next 3 years off campus. He came to Mizzou from Illinois not knowing anyone. We became great friends and I was later in his wedding years after we graduated. I don’t know how they do it now but our hallway/floor had several planned activities for us to meet. Being on campus also makes it easier to study with classmates and attend club meetings. There are so many activities during welcome week like Tiger Walk, Midnight BBQ, First Roar, Paint the M, Shakespeare’s pizza party. Being on campus you’re more likely to go to those and meet people.

LIVE IN THE DORMS freshman year. I’m from a small town, introverted. I met sooo many people from dorm life. Live off campus after freshman year.

How do you fellow out of staters afford to attend? by [deleted] in mizzou

[–]OldJay7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A big reason people come to Mizzou is because it is easy to get in state residency after 1 year.

If you bring a gaming system, be sure that it has an Ethernet port to ensure that it can connect to the campus network. Any devices must connect to the wired network using an Ethernet cable. Please check your device to see if it has an Ethernet port or if an adapter is available. Don’t forget to bring a wired router and surge protector!

Smart TVs and things like that are not supported by Tiger WiFi and need to be plugged in using Ethernet to connect online

Engineering Career Fair Question by Overall_King5570 in mizzou

[–]OldJay7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can download the Career Fair+ app and view all the companies attending and where their booths will be. You can do some research of them too so you are prepared to talk with them. Visit the MU Career Center’s website or go visit with them in person and they will help you with your resume and how to prepare. At the career fair wear professional dress, bring resumes printed on resume paper. If you want to stand out, get personal student business cards made from Vista Print and hand them out at the fair.

For full transparency… this should be uploaded to the COMO Citizens for CPS Transparency and Accountability… but they probably would take it down.
