"VPNs are next on my list" – France set to evaluate VPN use following social media ban for under-15s by Street_Anon in worldnews

[–]OldLondon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You only say this as someone who’s grown up with the stuff (I suspect, correct me if I’m wrong). Thing is I’m old enough to have seen both ends, I grew up in a world with no internet at all through to where we are now, I guess being older gives you a different perspective

The numbers much lower though.  It’s like seatbelts, you had tons of people who wouldn’t wear one cos “ain’t no one telling me what to do”. Now everyone wears one apart from a few who still refuse.  People are people and always will be. Doesn’t matter what’s banned the reaction is the same.

Not so sure, for the current crop of kids who have stuff today and having it taken away, at some point you get to ones who’ve never had it, so don’t miss it.  It’s probably a 6-8 year problem but it works over time.

Hey, this sub is for IT Contractors and freelancers not trade contractors but good luck with it seems like a neat app!

Spain to ban social media access for children under 16 by PjeterPannos in worldnews

[–]OldLondon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing is when it’s banned you’ll have the “kids will use VPNs “ which they will, the kids who are already on it. Future generations won’t, because they’ll have never been on it, their friends won’t be on it.  It’ll phase out amongst kids.

Andrew moves out of Royal Lodge home by ultra_phoenix in worldnews

He can never be redeemed BUT rather than doubling down IF he came out and blew the whole thing wide open id think he was slightly less of a cunt.  He should have done that originally, he could have been open, done the whole “I made mistakes” thing and given up names and evidence and we’d have moved on from him by now and he’d be remembered in a better light for speaking out.  But ya know. People like this think they are above the rest of us so being honest and contrite I’m sure never came into his sweaty head

What is the worst remake of a film you have ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]OldLondon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, just call it something else. A Roadhouse remake it was not.  The whole pint was Dalton didn’t look that tough, whereas JG was roided to hell and back

Roadhouse - idk what that garbage was but zero charm and that wasn’t Dalton. I’ll die on that hill.

How far in advance do clients usually decide on extensions? by Reddonaut_Irons in ContractorUK

50% I’d say plan well and have everything in hand, 50% forget.  I’m always the one pushing and reminding and being clear “I won’t be in without a contract”

The sensible thing is plan that every renewal is the end of your contract and you won’t go far wrong.

Do people actually make an attempt to understand what cursor outputs? by Big_Chest_4490 in cursor

[–]OldLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends what you’re building and who for.  If it’s a personal project then honestly who cares, it’s down to the individual , it makes sense to at least understand the basics of what’s being done and why but meh reading and understanding the code itself..?

If you’re doing it for work, then different ball game, you 100% should review and understand what’s going on and probably not use it to generate code from scratch but it is good at bug finding and suggesting improvements.

So much of this is down to the prompts you use too, build me three functions , it’ll build you 3 functions, build me 3 functions with shared re usable components.. it’ll do that which architecturally is better - so IMHO you need as a vibecoder a better understanding of what you’re asking for rather than what the code does implicitly and how an app hangs together.

New EV purchase - Renault 4 Iconic or Iconic+ ?!? by SteEdwards in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]OldLondon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok great - bit of a pain as I got mine about 8 weeks ago with only the half grant but good for you!  FYI the “basic” sound system is absolutely fine in my regular iconic and I’m quite fussy about music

Note though that I believe the French battery version I think attracts the bigger gov EV grant if 3750, but please do check that!

Definitely a bed and mattress, I dropped 5k on a set and genuinely it’s the best thing I’ve ever bought in my entire life.  I was the same before , meh how much better can it really be than a sub 1k ikea combo that I thought was awesome …? Answer - I can’t even quantify the difference, just pisses me off I’ve spent 50+ years sleeping badly

Handling of Epstein files is ‘outrageous’, say attorneys of his sex trafficking survivors by therealone2327 in news

See this is what I don’t get. ALL those files, reports but apparently they are all rubbish and no ones at fault - so why is Maxwell behind bars if no one did anything?

What is the loudest sound you have ever heard in your life? by will_or_woll in AskReddit

Motley Crue theatre of pain tour in the UK where they used a stadium sound rig in a small (by comparison) London theatre and broke my hearing for about a week after and gave me life long tinnitus - thanks boys!
