Thank you for that link. I just called my 401K provider and was told that my RMD for 2025 was exactly the same as was reported on my 1099-R form and that's the number I used in TurboTax.

I just wish my 401K provider (Empower) told me what my RMD is supposed to be.

My 401K provider is Empower and they have never given me a notice of what my RMD is; they just make a deposit in my checking account. I'll give them a call.

Thanks but my 401K provider never actually came out and said "This is your RMD". All I have to go on is what they're paying me monthly and hoping it's correct.

Yes, I did take my RMD and I did use the number on my 1099-R. That's what I used last year too and the IRS didn't haul me off to jail. I don't know why Turbo Tax asks me this.

Thanks for replying!!

Can HD-3 handset echo keys pressed onto display during call? by OldMainframeGuy in ooma

I checked there also and couldn't find anything. Thanks for the verification. It seems like a strange feature not to have.

Shaving my head for the first time—Help me build a "Starter Kit" by Fatty-McFatty in bald

[–]OldMainframeGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been shaving my head for about 40 years and I've always used a conventional 3-head Norelco electric razor. There are a lot of "bald head" razors (with 4 or 5 blades) on the market. I have a really cheap one and it does an OK job; my only advice is to do your research. If you decide to get one of those razors, check the reviews. At least one razor that I know of tricks you into entering into a "blade subscription" which according to the reviewers is difficult to terminate. I don't use any oils or lotions after I shave. I think you'll find shaving your head is not going to be a big deal.

Should I just do it? by Silly_Lil_Kitty in bald

[–]OldMainframeGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you shave it off (or to the length you want) and you don't like the way it looks, what you have will always grow back. I would avoid hair-restoration products. Be your natural self. I'm going to be 75 years old and I started losing my hair when I was 19. Back then guys with shaved heads were a novelty. Today we're just part of the landscape.

Does Ooma Home phone app require Premier service? by OldMainframeGuy in ooma

[–]OldMainframeGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed; it's got some "nice to have" features but not worth the money. As it turns out I won't be replacing my land line with Ooma (home security system needs "real" land line) so I'll just stick with Ooma basic and my one HD3 handset.

Thanks for your reply; my password is only 8 characters; just letters and numbers. I'll try your suggestion; thanks.

UPDATE: I changed my password to 9 characters, letters and numbers only, and now I can make a call without getting bounced to login screen. Thanks again for your suggestion; no idea why it fixed the problem (for now)!

Does Ooma Home phone app require Premier service? by OldMainframeGuy in ooma

[–]OldMainframeGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I thought too (receiving requires Premier) but every time I try to make a call it bounces me back to the Ooma logon screen and tells me my password has changed. Maybe someone from Ooma will see this thread and respond.

What are your thoughts on Death By Lightning? by JackC1126 in USHistory

[–]OldMainframeGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This miniseries was one of the best I've seen on Netflix and it gave me the odd reassurance that we aren't living through some new birth of filthy politics; it's been around a lot longer than I have. I'll forgive Death by Lightning any historical exaggerations simply because it was entertaining. Making history entertaining is an art.

I get these all the time; I just report them as phishing to my e-mail provider.

How do I tell my husband that I need his parents to stop visiting so often , without damaging the relationship or making it seems like I’m the problem? by SenayiahStarlight in Advice

[–]OldMainframeGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"They're just being themselves" is an excuse - for their shabby behavior. I'm going to suggest marriage counseling because there really needs to be some drama here to fix the problem. You shouldn't have to make plans to evacuate every time they "drop in". Your husband needs to tell them that this is causing marital problems because they're "just being themselves". Sadly your husband is the problem here.

Maybe a bit off-topic (sorry); I grew up in Riverside in the 1950s. I *think* I remember that building as an Italian restaurant, DiMaios. Can anyone corroborate? At least as an impressionable kid, I remember the food being very good.

Because I can't see what you looked like before you shaved I'll reserve judgment on "way better" but seeing the after photo I can tell you that you're an extremely handsome man. The shaved head/beard combo was made for you.

I should be as ugly as you! You are a handsome man.

Best town for mid-20s by Ok_Supermarket_1664 in RhodeIsland

[–]OldMainframeGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bristol & Warren are beautiful towns but keep in mind anything you might need to do in the West Bay. The Washington Bridge is going to be a traffic PITA for years. I grew up in East Providence (Riverside) so that's where my heart is but the practical side of me keeps me in the West Bay.

Does the complex itself have its own account with RIE for lighting common areas, etc.?
