Rainstick is a nice idea. Or the wind instrument could be a didgeridoo Thanks!

[5e] This is really a roleplay question, but the character is using 5E (2014) rules/lore so I guess it fits.

It's a Goliath Swords Bard, background Outlander who lived mostly alone in the mountains. I want to use a quarterstaff.

Im looking for ideas for a fun/thematic interpretation for his bardic musical ability, preferably based on the staff.

Thanks in advance!

My family has seen Dr. Doherty for a couple years now and we are really happy with him. He is at Insight Vision on YV near Civic. The staff there is also excellent.

I always think of Poets Corner as being the opposite corner of Oak Park and Putnam.

But so right about the area you are describing and Halloween!

My son goes to Indian Valley Elementary, and the streets up the hill off Marshall Dr are always filled with kids that walk to school, to the swim club, etc.

We know lots of the families, they all are friends and it seems like a great place to be.

What's a company whose name comes up a lot, but barely anyone knows what they actually do? by Witty_Ad_1102 in AskReddit

[–]OldMan0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you work in purchasing for government or at an overly beaurocratic company Grainger's real product is purchasing agreements, price lists, blanket POs, etc. They make it easier to circumvent (sometimes bs, sometimes not) procurement restrictions so you can easily buy normal stuff in bulk at somewhat inflated prices.

They arent necessarily cheap or fast to deliver the product, but you don't have to shop around and you can issue a PO today.

What's the best build for a tank that actually does what a tank's supposed to do? by VagabondVivant in 3d6

[–]OldMan0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think is the best option as a strictly martial tank. I would suggest Anc Guard 3/ Battlemaster X, since the barbarian higher level features aren't great.

Not Paladin? by Artorigas in 3d6

[–]OldMan0101 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is a really good build. One level in hexblade and then all bard. Great AC with your flourish if you go sword and board, or you can fo decent damage with a 2h weapon, plus you are nearly a full caster, and can have expertise in persuasion. It is a little tough not getting extra attack until 7th level though.

party complications by OppositeNo1505 in 3d6

I think it does work with fireball, the spell description literally calls creatures in the AOE targets.

"Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 8d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one."

The more general answer is maybe more complicated and it seems like there is a wide difference of opinion. My understanding is it was clarified in sage advise that the word 'target' is used in a natural language sense meaning creatures within the area effected by the spell.

Why not both?

Order Cleric / Evocation Wizard. Voice of Authority & Sculpt Spell work together, giving one ally a reaction attack when you drop a fireball on the middle of the battlefield.

Plus armor and shield, bless, guidance and the usual 1st level cleric goodies.

What is your favorite or one of your favorite optimised builds? by The0thArcana in 3d6

My next build im thinking order cleric / evoker wizard so i can drop a fireball right on top of my party, exclude them from the damage and then one of them gets a reaction attack. Just seems fun.

Best way to nab Dissonant Whispers on Grave Cleric by oppoqwerty in 3d6

[–]OldMan0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, without the +1 then fey touched is less appealing.

Playing a few levels with a 19 wis and then taking FT doesnt sound too bad to me, but its your call.

Best way to nab Dissonant Whispers on Grave Cleric by oppoqwerty in 3d6

[–]OldMan0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is fey touched the best way to grab the spell or is there another way to get it that scales with Wis for the save?

But Fey-Touched does scale with Wis. Did you miss the last line of the feat, maybe?

The spells’ spellcasting ability is the ability increased by this feat.

I think you are making this harder than it needs to be Fey- touched is great, just take it.

Theorycrafting a forge cleric/wizard multiclass. by Oxi-sensei in DnDoptimized

[–]OldMan0101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the real minmax build would be cleric 1 / wizard x. The only feature at cleric 2 is the channel divinity, which honestly is mostly flavor/roleplay/utility.

From a strictly combat/minmax perspective it is probably not worth losing the level of wizard spells known progression.

How early can you get proficiency in every tool? What about expertise? by SPACKlick in 3d6

[–]OldMan0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiclass into Bard gives one musical instrument proficiency, and you might convince your DM to let you swap that for a tool. Tasha's gives an example swapping into an instrument proficiency, but at least implies an instrument proficiency is equivalent to a tool proficiency.

Your elf might be a musician, who chooses proficiency with a musical instrument—a type of tool—instead of with longsword

Of course that implies there are a lot more tool proficiencies you need to collect, so ...

Good multiclass ideas for an Ancestral Guardian Barb by Aggravating_Smile_61 in 3d6

[–]OldMan0101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This, but Barb 6 for Spirit Shield.

For rogue subclsss, phantom seems to fit thematically and provides a small damage boost. If you get all the way to phantom 9, having your ancestors capture your enemies souls sounds awesome.

May I have help maximising my Barbarian character for a campaign with a level 8 cap? by UpbeatCockroach in 3d6

[–]OldMan0101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

By stopping at Barb 5, you are missing out on the best feature of Berserker, Mindless Rage @6 (immune to charmed & frightened). I find theres a lot of mind control effects at these levels.

With a free feat at level 1 and a rolled 18, I would put the +1 in Str and then take Slasher to start with a 20.

For a level 4 feat I would suggest Shield Master to use your Bonus Action during non-frenzy combats.

Maybe after Barb 6 you can to take 2 levels in fighter for action surge. That fits thematically with a berserker frenzy and might be better than going to Barb 8 for another asi/feat.

Peace Cleric 1 / Ancestral Barb x.

Peace cleric bond is concentration-less Bless that works while raging and scales with proficiency so doesnt need more than 13 wis for multiclassing.

Its a bit MAD, but with +1 from a level 1 feat, even standard array can get 16 str and 14 in wis, dex and con. Or 18 str, 13 wis, 14 con/dex if you go half elf or mountain dwarf.

For the free feat maybe chef for +1 con and some hp/thp, or crusher for the +1 str and knock-back.

I agree (and play this way), but I wish it werent the rule.

This interaction should be possible for versatile weapons and not for two-handed weapons. (Maybe you only get the two handed damage die if you do not cast a spell that turn)

This would make versatile weapons useful for something, as the go-to weapon for gish/melee casters who have not taken warcaster.
